Posted - 05 Jan 2010 : 1:00:01 PM METEORIC 1920 - Thoroubred Stallion. Can anyone with the GSB's tell me where this horse was stationed, his Owner and if he was part of the Premium Scheme and which Locations he was travelling please in 1926 (ish.) and if you have any other stock listed for him.
He appears in the pedigree of Bwlch Valentino and is the sire of Bwlch Goldflake - 1927. http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/bwlch+valentino

Posted - 22 Jan 2010 : 10:50:14 PM Thanks - Brill step forward Hollyland & Thanks for the supporting info Melynda, at last were getting somewhere. Meteoric must have been on the MAF scheme, as the premium was so low (subsidised by the gov.)and the Government scheme finished in 1930, so fits in nicely with the HIS scheme and 1930. Looked at the map, both places are off the A40,not too far from each other, so your right. I guess Mr P Davies must have been alive then. On the pony racing front, they all seem to think the ponies were Thoroughbred or near. Cigarette was not entered in the Welsh stud book, so we can stop looking for her there. I did wonder if she was bt the TB, Little Corona, will follow that next. I seem to come up with a blank on the pony racing front, all I've found is that it stopped just before the second world war. Unless we can turn anything up relating to her racing in South Wales and doing well and find the horse she was sired by. I understand that Little Corona covered a lot of mares, but I have only found a few, so far. Great work, Thanks very much. Keep the Meteoric info safe for future reference. Can you think of anywhere they pony raced in the 1920's or if they ran under rules. Wondering if anyone wrote any thing about the races in those days and if there are any local books about it. or results. Thanks Again Cheers Sue

Posted - 22 Jan 2010 : 7:37:01 PM Small step forward in that an advert for April 1926 (the year Meteoric would have covered Cigarette to foal Bwlch Goldflake in (1927) has turned up. Meteoric was a Premium stallion who travelled CARMARTHENSHIRE that year. "Winner of the King's Premium of £150 in 1925 and 1926". He stood at a subsidised £1pound 2shillings and 6pence.(A 13.3hh riding pony down the road in Nantgaredig stood for a fee of 2guineas that season ) Described as having "great bone and substance"Bay. 16.1hh (bigger than most records). Breeding as well-known...by Sunstar out of Flechette etc. This information supports the breeding of Goldflake as being in Llandeilo-worth looking at a map to see how close. |

He must have had his H.I.S. Premium pre 1930 as he is listed as having had a premium but not in any of the HSB 1930 and onwards. Sorry haven't got the books between 1921-1929 so can't look him up.
