Am tryng to find out which Welsh mares Bostock had in those early days, just in case anyone has this info, or can tell by the Welsh stud books..need a list of all the Welsh or Pary Welsh mares at Bostock at the turn of the century.

Lynda, Have you any idea/records of who these ponies were by Sandiway.??

'I have found some old Polo and Riding pony stud books, Vol 1X (1905-1906) Vol X11 (1911-1912) and Vol XX111 ( 1937-1939). On looking through Vol 1X at the London Show results 1905 it is stated that "It is satisfactory to note that five of the six awards in the four year old class were the produce of fully registered parents, sires being Eheu (219) Sandiway (121) The Bey (108). Two of the winners in the Novice class were also the offspring of fully registered parents, Sandiway (121) being again credited with the 2nd and 4th prizes.'

Bostock Hall (The old manor house) is about 10 miles away from me, I just live round the corner from Delamere Forest.

Its great to find out history of these old lovely manor houses in my area, many have been transformed into luxery apartments, i suppose in this day and age nobody has the money for the upkeep of some of these places anymore.

Some of teh old manor houses round here have had the stable yards converted to house/apartments and it makes me sad being a horse owner really. But I would love to know about some of the studs that were around in them days.

Thank You Lynda for the info..
and RAFA if you google: Bostock Hall Polo Stud (Middlewich) and
Sir Humphrey de Trafford, you will get the whole family history they owned about 1900 acres. and had a collection of polo ponies, including Rosine,Coral Juliett and the others we've mentioned..You'll find it interesting. I ride in Delamere and it sounds as if its close to there too and the Chirk Castle.
Cheers Sue

I live in Cuddington next to Sandiway

I will try and find some info out I have an old book about Cuddington and Sandiway and theres a bit of info in there about old manor houses that were racing stables/hunt yards.

Janet

ps was meant to say I live about 1 mile away from the Cheshire Polo which is based on the edge of Cuddington going to Tarporley.

Interestingly in the 2yr old class, in 3rd and 4th place were youngsters by Rosewater (37). I will keep looking.

Thanks for the additional info, folks...
The Welsh mare mentioned as the dam just might have come from the Chirk Castle ponies..they are very close by. Anyone wioth the early register(s) please can you look to see if there are any Chirk ponies in the early records..would need to be around 1876 ~ as Cuddington was born in 1886.. Thank You.
and as this mating was such a sucess with Sandiway, there must be others from this line..any help there would be good...SANDIWAY was born 1895..and out of ROSEWATER 1883, said to be influential in the breeding of the present day Polo Ponies.

Pelle, Please can you send me a copy of the info you found on Zoolphkar and where it was recorded please. I'm still on his trail.
I'd also like the name of the stud at Folly Gate, if you can sort it out...Thank You..
Which Hurlaston Club are you talking about ??? where is it located or was...I see there are several.

Do your family have any of the old Poona race cards.

Thanks and
Thanks.
Sue

Hurlingham had a register of poloponies, and all ponies got a number. Somewhere in the attic we have some of the old registers,I shall see if I can find them. Sometimes you can find more information in Hurlingham registers than in NPS.

This is the entry for Cuddington in the "Modern Polo" book.

Page 402 under the heading; "Polo Ponies measured & Registered at Hurlingham 1897."

"CUDDINGTON (Mr A. Rawlinson) ch. m; white fore fetlocks, white near hind leg, blaze, snip (149)."

I think the number 149 must be her entry on the register there are no breeding details on any of the ponies listed.
