Posted - 05 Nov 2009 : 3:21:35 PM If you do a book search on goggle for 'Hornsea 1864 Volturno' it appears that Hornsea may to listed on page 197 of Volume XV of the GSB. Someone with a copy would have to confirm that this is correct.
Hornsea is for 1881 & 1882 believed to have no produce. For 1884 she is described as missed to Chester.
Both Cornelia and Vanity have progeny listed in Volume XVII of the GSB http://www.archive.org/stream/generalstudbook08unkngoog
Vanity's 1889 daughter by Chapel Royal (named Friskarina) also appears to have progeny. |

Posted - 04 Nov 2009 : 11:29:47 PM Thanks You Dormouse, Your on the right track..Lowlander is the sire. In the NPS Register Vol.XXII pg.39, there is reference only to LOW WATER with this entry(Vol.XV.page 197) and I understand that this referes to an entry in the GSB. Will look at your offsprings.
I found three Lowlander. 1870 (GB) (Dalesman/Lufra). 1888 (GB) (Lowland Cheif/Restless) 1869 (USA)Lowlander ( with note saying AHS).
Thanks You Sue |

Posted - 04 Nov 2009 : 5:47:52 PM Weatherbys online only have one Low Water which can't be correct as it is a filly born in 1951.
Using the goggle book search I have discovered the following Low Water which might be the one concerned. I can't find any information regarding any progeny for this Low Water at all.
Low Water, Chestnut Colt, b 1880, by Lowlander, ex Hornsea. Low Water seems to have raced for a Mr Kent in what appears to be jump races but as a lot of the books are on snippet preview only therefore telling exactly what races/placings it concerns is difficult.
I have found three other offspring for Hornsea. Lily Dale b 1879, by Lowlander, ex Hornsea. (Lily Dale has produce listed in the General Studbook Vol 18) Hornet, chestnut colt, by The Baron, ex Hornsea. Cornelia, b 1870, by Theobald, ex Hornsea. Vanity, b 1883, by Royal George, ex Hornsea.
Hornsea by Volturno out of Romula, by King Caradoc (Vol XV p 197) was shot in 1885 after producing a chestnut colt by Marmion (Mr S M Thomas). [I therefore wonder whether Mr S M Thomas was Hornsea's owner]
Hornsea is listed in one place as Hornsea (1864) I therefore wonder whether 1864 is her year of foaling.
If there is a query as to which Volturno is mentioned above he is listed in one place as Volturno (Mr W P Partridge)
www.allbreedpedigree.com have a Romula who is a chestnut mare born 1855 by King Caradoc out of Miss Bower. |
