I know Mrs Vlacq has been wondering what happened to this horse for about 5 years - I hope everyone at Vlacq is pleased with this update!

Hiya! I'm Liz, and have the pleasure of being servant to the wonderful Harley, AKA Vlacq Qadifa Kayal. Long story short, Harley left the Vlacqs as a yearling, and was then sold to my aunt. Two years ago, she sold him to us (my mum and I).

I got him as an unbacked 4yo; I loved backing him and bringing him on, and for the past two years we've been having lots of fun! We mostly hack out, but have started our schooling now we have access to a school. We also did our first pleasure/endurance ride (12km) this summer, and he was a superstar! He absolutely adored it.
He's a lovely genuine horse, a real playful sweetie, but he's also a stubborn dipstick with a lot of character! He's quite clumsy and doesn't always know where to put his feet, so jumping is... in the works! ;)

So... here he is! The grey is my mum's Arab X Welsh, called Fly.

I wasn't getting at you CC - just I know how a quick read of the thread MIGHT look... many a sleepless night over him but we know he is safe now yipee... there is another full sister local to us who is rather yummy too - must go visit again for an update

Angela - you make me laugh!

Certainly got the Kaz stamp with that head

Lovely to see. Well done Cheerful Cherub - keep up the good work. Only hope I can do as good a job when it comes to my Kaz baby

Oops, I didn't realise it could have been read to suggest he became ill at yours! Sorry, my post has been edited. He definitely left the Vlacqs in a fantastic condition - I saw him soon after he arrived down here, and he was a scrummy baby. :D

Mrs Vlacq - I've had no time to get onto the computer since I last posted. If I have enough time tonight I'll email some pictures to you. :) Worry not - technology might delay it, but you WILL get some pics! :D

I would like to point out that the ragwort poisoning was nothing to do with us! Our land is ragwort free and he left here in the best possible condition... a horrible interlude followed (so I am informed) but now he looks very happy indeed - well done!

Mrs Vlacq - it's not just when ridden that he's clumsy! When I pick out his feet, he doesn't always know which foot to pick up, and does a little dance. He's a bit of an idiot when it comes to the farrier; he just can't seem to balance himself! He's starting to pick his feet up more when ridden (there was a time when he'd clip every trotting pole!) but is just as silly when standing still. The silly plum.
He certainly is soppy, he loves cuddles and fusses and would rather follow you around the field than graze.
He's only chilled out some of the time, though - when he's pushed too far, he's the complete opposite. At the start we had to cope with a bit of rearing when he was pushed... he now only rears when the vet comes to do jabs and teeth! ;) (The same vet who treated him for the liver damage, so is linked with bad memories of blood tests and being near death's door!) --- Long story short, he got ragwort poisoning after leaving the Vlacqs, and the vet thought he wasn't going to survive.

Kharidian - I think that might be the only time he's ever listened to me! ;)

He looks like a lovely boy - full of beans when turned out but really listening to you in the schooling picture!

You'll have lots of fun with him!

Lovely pics!
He is also half-brother to my lad, Vlacq Redwood Reflection, who was a very accident-prone baby until he was about 6 but has gone on to be a successful ridden and carriage horse and as Mrs. V. says, very soppy and loving. I am sure you will have loads of fun with your boy.

Lovely boy
Mrs Vlacq Posted - 27 Sep 2009 : 1:19:45 PM
hahaa - no, I think he is the first clumsy one! Those by Khazad are very chilled out (very very soppy horses) so maybe he's just extremely relaxed??!! I'm sure as his schooling comes on he'll get better!

Sure, I'd love to - once my emails are behaving. I'm struggling with them at the moment, but I will get some pics to you, hopefully today!
I've been chatting to Judith on another forum, where I asked about Harley's breeding. Maj is quite stocky compared to Harley!

I hoped seeing him would bring a smile to your face, I know you and Laura worried about him and wondered how he was doing for quite some time.

Also, I've wanted to know... is being a clumsy oaf a Vlacq thing, or is he just special? ;)
Mrs Vlacq Posted - 27 Sep 2009 : 12:32:42 PM
Brilliant pics, just lovely to see him as he was one Laura didn't want to part with. He's very like his Sire too.Looks full of life! Very pleased that you have him and that he is enjoying life and work, I'm sure he will excel at endurance. Judith S's Madge (Vlacq Majid)is his sister and Laura's Anglo Vlacq Sulime is his 1/2 sister. Could you e mail us the pics for the family album.
