Hi all,
I've not posted anything for ages, but I am now thinking of breeding from my PBA made and wondered if there were any stallions that exhibited Gulastra Plume Or that were Champagne coloured, standing in the UK. I would want him to be well bred and to know that he had a competition record, as i'm thinking of at least showing the offspring!
I find the colouring really fascinating, as well as beautiful, but I want to breed a horse that I can actually do something with, rather than it just having an unusual colour!! Is Gulastra plume a dominant trait? I know little is known about the genetics of it, but that it is thought to be linked to the sabino gene, but that there is no test for it, but don't know much else, sommy apologies for being dim .
I would really welcome your help, as my mare really is fab and I would like a foal from her, before she starts her eventing career. The is so much

Thank you flowersfield.

I'm making this my mission.

There are allot of cremellos used as breeding stock simply for their colour alone, which I think is very wrong.

Temperament, conformation & movement must be used as a priority in breeding horses.

I'm no expert in breeding, having only bred three foals in my lifetime but I think indiscrimiate breeding has allot to answer for the poor state of horse market at the moment.

I will certainly be posting pictures of my first dilute foal as soon as he/she arrives.

I would love to see some cremellos and other subtle colours with high per cent of Arabian blood. I do hope you will post some pictures of the results of your breeding plan!

Hi Countrybumpkin
Yes, of course I'll keep everyone posted on my mare's baby, when it arrives.
My mare is a MidOak mare, she is called MidOak Maiden Ice (Kingsettle Moulton - MidOak Millenium Gold)
Well my 'master plan' was to breed high % Arabian cremellos initially. I bought Nilly with all intentions to breed her straight to a PBA cremello stallion to produce cremello.
When I went to the Stud to purchase Nilly, I looked at their cremello stallion with a view to using him. I knew the owner had a pure bred stallion, who he was anxious to show me. To be honest I wasn't really interested in seeing him as I'd made up my mind on the cremello. I've seen many Arabian stallions over the years and I could probably count on one hand, the ones I'd use. But when he bought him out, he took my breath away. Lovely red chestnut, not too much white, flashy mover but more importantly well put together and such a sweet temperament. Well my plans changed instantly.
His name is Mahalias Marcus and he is by Pynergy.
Both my mare and Marcus are Premium Graded with the ZFDP too, so I am hopeful her baby will be 'useful'.
I can't help you with your Gulastra Plume but if you are thinking of breeding her next year its worth going to the AHS Nationals, to check out the stallions there.
If you want to go down the dilute route, take a look at Abbi Holmes's cremello stallion Frank (Xiviers Sinartra). Young stallion with allot of potential. At 4 years old he is doing most disciplines.
What colour is your mare?
I too have to find a bay stallion, as I have someone asking me to breed a dun foal from Nilly. The Vlacq Stud have some lovely stallions, Mrs Vlacq posts here. I might ask Sue & Laura at Vlacq if they have a pure bred or PBA bay stallion for Nilly, later on.
I know their stallion, Princeton Mariner, who is chestnut has produced a bay filly with a skunk tail, out of a Straight Egyptian mare. I think their gelding Vlacq Prince Valiant, who is by the same stallion may also have the skunk tail.
Sorry for rambling on but do keep in touch, it's lovely to meet like minded people. Good luck with whatever path you choose.

NatH, do post pictures of your baby won't you . I have a pba that is palomino, but at 20 months, she's 16'2", so she's going to be huge!! Mine is by Midoak Mardi Gras, out of an ISH x TB mare, so I am exploring my options now, with a view to covering her next year as her movement is fab and her conformation is really good. Who is your mare and which stallion did you use? I ask as I have such a lot to learn, having not bred Arabs before!!!!
I know which stud you mean on the continent, but for breeding to a dilute, the cost is prohibitively high, as the semen is incredibly expensive from there (more than using Damon Hill NRW!), so that's not an option for me, hence wanting to know if there was anything available in the UK, before I start looking further afield
If anyone does know of a Gulastra Plume Stallion I could use, or a mare for sale with it, I'd be very grateful.
Thanks so much

I'm not familiar with the term 'Gulastra plume' but I have just googled it and the majority of the pictures show bay horses with a silver, or 'skunk' tail.
You will find this in allot of Egyptian Arabians.
Google also showed horses with the rabicano, 'flecking' gene.
I'm branching out myself from breeding pure breds into 'dilute' PBA. It's a facinating topic and there are some wonderful colours to be found.
I understand that there is a big Stud in Germany, who specialise in the Champagne colour.
I purchased my first cremello mare last year, hopefully she'll be the blank canvass I need to breed my dilutes.
First baby is due July, she is in foal to a pure bred chestnut stallion, which produce her a palomino foal.
Keep us posted on your plans.
