Has anyone used Efudex or any cream which causes a really sore result on their gelding's sheath? Looked on the web and found pictures put on by a man prescribed this for his forehead - if this has the same result on a horse we can't see how we will be able to finish the course. http://www.sannerud.com/people/efudex/
Prof Knotty's advice seems to be always hit anything as hard as you can the first time as this will be your best chance, after that efficacy drops a lot.
Hope its ok to put web address in, can't make it live as haven't a clue about this sort of thing.
We have to make a decision to order whatever drug tomorrow so any advice/comments urgently needed.

So glad all going well with sarcoids. You are in the best hands with Prof Knotty. Efudex does work well on small bits or flat ones like my boy had.

Not stressed or anything, really.

The Efudex worked well on most of the 'odd' bits, they did scab and fall off and he didn't start to get upset till the last couple of applications so that was a relief. Prof Knotty was pleased with the result but said we should use the sarcoid cream for the remainder, it wasn't till the 4th go that he was obviously upset when we got back and that is when the bute was used.
Worry now is that he will associate getting in the trailer with horrible sheath pain and not load. Last go he is travelling with my cob who is having an ultrasound to look at funny lump near tailhead which I'm hoping has nothing to do with 'slight' back problem.
At least I'm losing weight rather having the usual crisis food binge.

Hope the treatment you chose is going well; do you have an update. We followed Prof Knotty's advice and he was right.

Sorry for not posting sooner. My experince of Efudex is very possitive but I can see the issues you may have with the location. Ari's was flat verucous type 2inch circle right on the side of his luvly face where cheek piece of his bridle could rub it. Efudex has cleared it and even though my vet and me were well pleased with healthy bald skin; amazingly hair has grown back. It was on the soft part of his cheek and he is very thin skinned but I had no bother applying Efudex and believe me he would let me know if he wasn't happy. Treated area formed a huge hard dry scab that worried me more than him and it took 4 weeks to drop off but sarcoid had gone. I know they all react diferently but it didnt itch or seem sore he never rubbed it or became headshy. Hope it helps to hear possitive results.

Having read the wed article I too can't see how you would be able to treat his sheath without sedating him first and he is going to kick and bite at his sheath when it is so itchy and sore. I would speak to Prof Knotty and see what he says as I assume it has been used before on horses.

Good luck.

Barbara
