Well Trigger is 30 next month and is starting to stiffen up a bit. Am just wondering what you would all suggest to keep him supple in his golden years. So far he has been on nothing and now I think the time has come. Vet is out for vaccinations in May so will ask his advice then but just wondering what you all use?

Next door's oldie is 28 this year, and hasn't had an easy life, various injuries and is now on his second 'retirement'. He still has a pootle round the village once a week, during which he strides out and leaves our 17 and 7 year olds far behind.

He's on Equiflex (I believe she moved onto this from Cortaflex because it's got the same ingredients but cheaper). He also gets No-Bute, seaweed, brewers yeast, micronised linseed. His teeth aren't so good so he get hi-fi for forage, and a huge bucket of soaked speedibeet at night. He's on high fibre nuts too.

He also wears travel boots at night to keep his joints warm as he stiffens up. Out in the field, he wears magnetic boots on all four legs, and a magnetic collar. She massages him twice daily with a magnetic vibrating stick (oooh err) and does his stretches.

Friend of mine has an old pony stabled at night, she used to come out in the mornings with the backs really stiff and puffed up. Started putting travel boots on the back at night and there has been no stiffness or swelling since.

Garnet has been on Cortaflex HA (on vet's recommendation) and Super Solvitax RA for some years. She has also had a course of Cartrophen injections twice a year for several years. We have recently started to give her Danilon occasionally if she seems a bit stiff, and also use it for several days prior to shoeing to help her pick her feet up. She is just shod in front to help support her big knees. She is now retired and lives out full time (has hysterics and tantrums if stabled, the spoilty brat! She is almost 27 (a mere child!).

Flax Oil is pretty good.

I use Super Codlivine Supple Joint Formula for my 35 year old. Really noticed the difference in about a week.

I hope Trigger will be posting a birthday photo of himself on the appropriate day!

I give my 31 years young wee ginger one, a daily does of Naf 5* Superflex. Seems to work well for her, though theres a wealth of suppliments & each case is individual. I'm sure all the other keepers of oldies will share their wealth of knowledge
Is your boy still in work? One thing I do make sure of is that she gets out to play daily, as she stiffens up dreadfully if shes in for any length of time. She loves a jaunt up the lane & around the farm.
