I am looking to purchase a Fylde Haydon saddle but unsure of the fittings...

One has become available but it is a private sale, i cannot try it and return it as it is at the other end of the country!!

My PBA currenty wears a sportex GP saddle, it is medium fit and 18inch i will have to measure the width when i get home tonight.

I tried a friends Fylde (linda model) this was a 17inch seat and what she said was a medium fit, it was 8inches from D to D ring, it was a very straight cut saddle and the flaps were just to small, they didnt take up my leg at all!! It was also ever so slightly too narrow for Jasper, another inch of width would have been better...

The one that has become available is a 17.5inch and is a WH style it has slight knee rolls, the seller has told me it is 9inches D to D ring and that it was used on a broad section D...

If i did purchase the saddle i would have a saddler come and check the fitting but i dont want to waste anyones time and purchase one thats a no-go from the start, what do members on here think?? Does anyone on here have a 16.2 PBA that wears a fylde?

I'm a massive fan of the Hayden saddle.
Takes some getting used to riding in if your quite tall though, but I use mine for everything, hacking, small jumps and every day riding.
My pure's and parts wear them, but if they have a high wither then the Marjorie is a better fit I find unless your tiny!.

Callisto - that's the other make I LOVE on anything with arab in it. Have two FB WH - my suede XW one is no longer suede it has had so much use! I wasn't as keen on the newer ones. They are more saddle than the farringtons but stay put well and are very comfy

We use a Frank Baines Working Hunter on one of ours, it is very comfortable. I have long thighs and am 5'7" and the flaps fit me fine - we do endurance in it up to 40 miles and no complaints.

He's a quite chunky 15 hh mainly Crabbet with no wither and is in an XX wide fitting.

I'm a fan of Fieldhouse saddles. They do various styles. I find they suit the shape of arabs very well

Hi Mrs Vlacq, i agree with what your saying, my friends saddle had very small flaps, i had to have my legs just about vertical otherwise my knees were sticking over the edge!!

I did email Fylde approx two weeks ago asking for their advise but as yet havent had any response...

Thanks for the suggestion of Ideals and Farringtons, i will have a look at these before progressing any further with Fylde, showing/WH saddles are all quite new to me i wasnt sure what other brands were around and what were good quality.

Hi - I'm not a Fylde fan personally - for just that reason, they are styled with ponies in mind and the Haydn in particular is tiny. I have just bought a Jessica suede 18"M which is actually very wide (9in D to D, which is what I wanted) and very sleek to flatter a big shouldered Anglo.

(A friend of ours always has Fyldes but gets them made up: a 16.5" saddle, with 17.5" size flaps) Apparently, the Fyldes and Ideals are basically the same but the Ideals are more 'real' in the cut of them (more for horses, not ponies; adults, not kiddies). Both can be adjusted a bit too. I had a whole batch of Ideals to try which were great, and very light.

My 16.2hh pbas wear Farringtons... in fact, most of my horses wear Farringtons (WHs). Really lovely saddles that you can do it all in. Judges seem to like them, but they're not so stripped down that you risk soreness if you do some mileage. Have seen a full suede version with the velcro underneath and will be asking Santa for it!!
