I voted stay, because I have seen in my area the money spent rebuilding my town when our own Government tried to wipe us off the map. I have seen the voluntary projects such as Domestic Violence projects, Surestart, Old people's support, mental health services and nature reserve projects all paid for by the EU. However, I too feel that the EU itself is now too diverse to have a common political or cultural identity and that is a shame. I would have liked, not just In or Out, but a "shake it all about" option, I have heard racist propaganda during this campaign from some areas that has made me sick. I am not saying that people voted just on immigration and I am not saying that immigration does not need to be addressed in a small Island, but to say that was not what some people voted out for would be untruthful. I actually had someone say to me that they were voting out because there were too many Pakistani Taxi Drivers... I think a lot of people (like me) were afraid about Turkey Joining, and disillusioned with Romania and Bulgaria but I have genuine fears what the OUT vote will mean, and feel, with certainty, having listened to so many conspiracy theorists saying it was stitched up for in, that had there been such a close vote the other way, we would have seen rioting in the streets |

So true, Garnet. But why make her son's life fearful. She should be telling him that he should go to his teacher if there are any problems and that most of us are not racist instead of brainwashing him into thinking we all are.

No excuse for racism and abuse. Like Garnet says no cure for stupid. Just wondering how many of the "stupids" took the trouble to vote or are old enough or entitled to vote for various reasons. To me they are low life bullies exploiting the situation and it should be dealt with firmly by Police. |

Sad that there is so much bitterness and animosity; we have had a referendum and the result stands.
It is appalling that anyone should use it as an excuse for racial remarks. Managing immigration was only a small part of why I voted leave but it was a concern as we are a small island and there is a limit to the number of people we can accommodate; at the present rate (and immigration numbers are rising year on year) we would be building a new large town EVERY YEAR.
Racial abuse is against the law and anyone doing so should be heavily fined. However, on a thread my friend sent me an immigrant lady who said her son is a British citizen (no mention if she was) and she was worried that he would be racially abused and that his teachers at school would not do anything about it; it appeared from what she wrote that she was telling her son that we were all racists as we wanted to kick them out and that he would not be able to go to his teachers for help and she thought they would have to move to another country. It appears that there has not been any abuse but because we voted leave we are all racist and we now have a free rein to do our worst. Her poor son! |

I find it very interesting that some people say the older generation shouldn't have been allowed to vote, as they won't have to live with their decision for so long (How rude!) It is possible that an 80 year old could live for another 30 years and a 20 year old could only have a year left. You never know! How many young people regret the choices they make in their 20's? Some of my friends have swapped degree courses, changed careers, had multiple partners, driven too fast and crashed their cars etc etc etc! |

Totally agree and it cannot have been from the actual vote that is safe and secure thankfully validated by address etc to prevent fraud. Some survey will have provided the statistics and how statically sound that survey was who knows? |

Is it only me wondering how the figures relating to which age groups voted for which result were come by? The whole point of marking the voting forms with a cross is to ensure anonymity....... |

I admire Nicola Sturgeons passion and tenacity but not her haste in forcing the issue. I totally agree with Scotland's right to a second referendum as some may have voted UK was the promise to stay in EU. However the interests of the people of Soctland will be best served by a referendum after we exit the EU and the trade agreements are in place. Their choice then will be fully informed of their best interest
Democracy isn't ageist we all come to the ballot with our experience and views.
Wake up call for all those elected the peolple vote. |

Well there's a Petition to Parliament going on at the moment asking for a second referendum. So far there are 3.5M signatories. What is amusing is that it was set up before the referendum by a person who wanted to leave so that if the result was close he could say it was not legal as it should be 60% of a turnout of 75%. Well as he says the petition was hijacked by the remain camp after the result. He is not happy. Of course Nicola Sturgeon may get her lot to vote against the order on I believe Reg 50 (I may be wrong). If there are more than a certain number of signatories to a petition then it has to be raised n Parliament. It has exceeded that figure!! |

I am 26 years old, and voted remain.
I was not happy with the results, and just can't see where this will lead.
If things get that bad, I'll consider moving to South Africa.
But that is my opinion, and mine alone.
So sad it's come to this.
And as for the comments being made to foreigners. Absolutely disgraceful
There are examples being circulated on Facebook at the moment, and I've witnessed some horrific language over the weekend whilst in town [huge Polish and Italian population in Bedford] Obviously, this is not the way of the nice people, just the uneducated people who were racist before the votes were cast, and now think it's their god given right to voice their abhorrent views.
It's shocking, and upsetting and people think that's what voting to leave meant. That they could then be so utterly despicably racist.
Perhaps it will all work out.
I dearly hope so. For the sake of Great Britain. |

For me it is a complete and utter disaster. So much so that I can hardly bring myself to speak of it.
The referendum result means my life certainly has a certain uncertainty about it. And I'm certain yours does too. So with my uncertainty and your uncertainty there's certainly a certain degree of uncertainty about, of that we can be quite........................................................... sure
P.S. Vote leave campaigners are complaining bitterly that Vote stay voters are referring to 'Independence day' ... oh well, is there nothing anyone can agree on? ....perhaps not.

The racism has escalated massively, it's revolting. Poor little kids being targeted at schools etc. The generalisations are that most racism is from the lower classes is so wrong...a lot of it seems to be but certainly not all. I'm amazed at some of the stuff I've seen on FB today. If these people got their wish the country would fall apart because who else would be doing some of these jobs??? From healthcare to cleaning.... |

I really think that other countries will follow us and hold their own referendum. It just needed us to vote out to lead the way.

I voted to leave as I think GB will be better long term. The lady at the top of our lane who is in her 50's voted to remain as 'she wanted to be able to eat strawberries all year round!'  |

This is the first time in my life I have actively campaigned for anything. Couldn't believe it when I got up at 5.15am on Thursday and listened to the news and it appeared Brexit had won. I did the horses and came back in for my breakfast and although all the results weren't in the Remain couldn't win; I had an extra large, black coffee, Champagne didn't appeal at that time of the morning.
In reply to your post Rui, we were a mixes bunch campaigning for Brexit and the leader and organiser of my group was a young man; very dishy, if only I had been 40 years younger!!!!
Watching a debate several days before the referendum where the panel were taking questions from the audience a young lady who was with the " remain" group was asked for her question and why she was going to vote remain. Her reply was that she went to the continent and she thought the roaming on her mobile phone would go up so she was voting to stay. Sometimes I despair; I think there are more important things at stake than paying a few extra £s for you mobile bill while you are on holiday. |

We live in Spain so we voted by post to remain, if we still lived in the UK then both of us would have voted to leave. So, pleased for the UK and we'll have to see how it will affect us over here in the future. |

I can understand younger people wanting to stay in EU they have known no different, back in 1975 we joined a Common Market not a Europien State. To me the EU and Euro is unstable anyway so rough times ahead whatever today's result. I am more confident of the future with our elected government in control.
Wasn't surprised Cameron is stepping down, fair play to him we do need a strong committed leader to get us through.
I too really aren't political however this is such a significant event.

Our family was devided! I dident vote, but would have voted leave, only because I believe that as a island we should be more self sufficient.
My son and husband wanted to stay, both think it is a disaster!
Well we have to get on with it now! I am a it disappointed that David Camron is stepping down and I dident see that coming so feel a bit deflated.
