Posted - 21 Apr 2015 : 09:08:57 AM I heard our Cuckoo this morning , so pleased its home as when i was talking to one of the birdwatchers that comes up here he was saying they were shooting them, i think it was in Malta or somewhere like that. Swallows still slow to come back, we have 3 at home and one in our big shed, feel so sorry for the two single ones as they have no mate. |

Posted - 22 Jun 2015 : 12:28:35 PM How lovely , i love Barn owls. We sometimes hear an owl in our wood but no idea what knid it is I had a run in with one of our Woodpeckers last night, i went out to shut the chickens in and it was in the greenhouse, poor thing was in a terrible panic and kept missing the open door as it flew round. It landed in the floor amongst the tomato plants so i caught it and carried outside and released it, they are such pretty birds |

Posted - 21 Jun 2015 : 4:15:54 PM I was talking to one of the birdwatchers this week, they are here every day in their cars with cameras , sit for hours trying to get photos of the birds. Today one was here at 7am sat for ages waiting then as soon as he drove off the Cuckoo started shouting its head off, i think he was camera shy. The chap i was talking to was saying they are getting less and less in our area hence so many birdwatchers coming to ours , we have 3 here at present he said. |

Posted - 27 Apr 2015 : 9:56:02 PM The cuckoos are back in sunny essex, heard one at the weekend but no sign of the swallows. We also have a nesting robin in one of the tack sheds, those little birds make me giggle they're so gutsy, just hope they manage to keep out of reach of the cats. |

Posted - 24 Apr 2015 : 3:22:48 PM Not heard a cuckoo yet but a few swallows back, not many so don't know if there are more to come or if we will only have a few this year. |

Posted - 24 Apr 2015 : 09:59:50 AM Thanks Ari i enjoyed looking at that. I think the Swallows are very slow in coming back this year, still only got 4 at home and 3 in our big shed. Housemartins still not back yet either although they are normally a few weeks after the Swallows. Great hearing them chirping away in the stables . Yesterday when i was up on the moor i met Mr and Mrs Goose with their newly hatched familt, i tried to get some pics but they were hissing at me and my poor horse wouldn,t go near them so couldn,t get close enough for photos, i hope the gamekeepers don,t see them as they shoot them :(

Posted - 23 Apr 2015 : 9:21:55 PM You are so lucky, we have not had cuckoos in our area of Warwickshire for years. We have two swallows now but last year we had lots more so I hope some more make it back. |

Posted - 21 Apr 2015 : 8:52:28 PM Glad your Cuckoo back safe. There was a project I followed that tracked micro chipped cuckoos. Google BTO Cuckoos to Africa and back it's fascinating. |
