Posted - 15 Jul 2015 : 06:35:01 AM We don't have squirrels around here, we do have cats, but have no dead bodys! Do you think they've gone back! |

Posted - 14 Jul 2015 : 9:35:27 PM Do you have any Squirrels , i chased the Squirrel off the bird feeders the other day , it jumped from the tree halfway up the house wall then ran up under the roof and along jumping on the nests as it went. Luckily the parent birds went mad and chased it away but could of knocked the babies out of the nest. I haven,t dared chase it away again but luckily it sees me now and runs. |

Posted - 01 Jul 2015 : 9:04:05 PM Yes very sad Ari and as you say there must be a reason, but what? We don't have any cats and they seemed to be safe. |

Posted - 01 Jul 2015 : 6:43:55 PM Firelight, I posted this 30 June last year....
"Got to yard this aft and found 4 baby swallows dead on floor within 6 inch of each other. No evidence of cat damage and they were very high up on barn roof. Could parents have chucked em out of nest as they looked very close to fledging. Mother Nature can be cruel but is their a reason?"
Very strange, must be a reason and I think parents maybe to blame. Very sad

Posted - 01 Jul 2015 : 3:00:48 PM I don't know if I want them to have another brood Sab2, I was so upset, it spoilt my morning ride as they were on my mind. What if they do the same again? I don't know what happened so cruel and sad. |

Posted - 01 Jul 2015 : 12:05:56 PM Well what a disaster! Got to yard this morning and the nest above my boys door has been emptied, 4 dead chicks on the floor, all fully developed and well fed. So sad. |

Posted - 01 Jul 2015 : 10:46:09 AM Swallows are now building another nest this time on the strip lighting, the old nest seems fine would this be the parents or the youngsters all very confusing. |

Posted - 26 Jun 2015 : 12:38:23 AM This is the 4th summer since our stables were built and the builders put up special ledges for swallows to nest. Still no swallows. We put up a wooden birdbox too. Nothing except for the odd wasp who turns up to have a chew. Feeling very unappreciated by the local avian community
When I walk the dogs on my neighbours finca in the early evening, there are often gangs of swifts hunting on the wing. If I stand still, they fly so close that I can feel the whoosh of air on my face as they dart by just inches away. Magical. Occasionally there are a few swallows hunting with them but I haven't seen any this year. |

Posted - 09 May 2015 : 5:23:00 PM Our swallows are in full flow they nearly took my nose off yesterday on fly pass! They seem to have a lot of 'committee' meetings too that get very heated! |

Posted - 09 May 2015 : 3:56:05 PM Swallows are doing well and I have a nest in my stable this year. Ari is out 24/7 apart from when I ride so it's amazing to me how they just carry on with their busy lives when we are in "their" stable. Really lucky to see Barn Owl several times last week flying out of owl box. |

Posted - 07 May 2015 : 6:58:31 PM Swallows are back and nesting in their usual place in my stable. Wren has laid four tiny eggs in her small but beautiful nest in our covered water tap. We have 10 ducklings on the stream at the bottom of the field. |

Posted - 05 May 2015 : 5:42:35 PM We still only have 4 Swallows at home and 3 Swallows in our shed, no House Martins yet either :(. House Sparrows are happily feeding their families and the Cuckoo can be heard about 6.30am , also heard a Cuckoo in our big fields which are 3.5 miles from the house. I hope we get more Swallows back as we normally have lots here . |

Posted - 03 May 2015 : 7:24:32 PM Our swallows have started coming into the buildings to repair the old nests. It always seems a shame that after nice weather they have to put up with this cold spell. I am remembering to leave puddles to make some mud. |
