We have slate floors in some of our rooms downstairs and they are horrid to clean plus you are supposed to scrub them and seal them which is something i hate doing so do not do it nearly enough. Has anybody used a steam cleaner and if so which ones do you have, also like the idea of the ones that can be hand held to do grouting , taps , toilet etc. |

"in fact i can steam the floor with one hand and hold my G & T in the other". Now there's an idea but have to be a (small) glass of red wine for me. Great if you over indulge and spill some, just mop it up as you go!!! |

Barbara thankyou yes i love it, you were right it is so easy to use , in fact i can steam the floor with one hand and hold my G & T in the other as its so light and flexible ( my OH caught me the other night ). Did one of the bathrooms the other day and the tiles look fab, makes cleaning so much less of a chore. |

Glad you are getting on well with the steam cleaner, great, aren't they. I did a lot of research before getting mine and was very pleased I did as I know they are not all as good and versatile as the Vax S6S. Some don't stem for long before needing a refill and lots of them don't taks detergent although to be fair if you don't have horse, pets etc you probably don't need detergent. |

Well i love mine  not used it much yet as been a very busy week but used it yesterday to clean the granite behind the cooker and the microwave, the granite looks fab now. Our kitchen is hand painted so i have to be careful with cleaning it but tested the steamer on a couple of the doors and it worked a treat, just got to find the time to do the rest of it now Mine is the Vax one , forgotten which one it is, i got it from a lovely person on here who had 2 . The steam last ages , very easy to use and the tools are stored on it so easy to get to. Wish i had bought one years ago . |

Mine is a Shark steam lite and its for floors only I bought it from one of the liveries next door she gets them from work for £35, I really wanted the multi steamer that does tiled walls and basically anything but they are £99, I might go out and get a hand held one now to do the other stuff but feel once I start with that it will become a major addiction and I wont be able to stop, I am sad I know |

What one did you buy ? Is a steam mop different to steamer.?
I fell asleep watching tv woke early hours of morning and the sales pitch was on .... Went back to sleep and started dreaming about bloody steamers! Oh the excitement is just too much!!! |

Ha ha you lot to be honest I am a bit addicted to it as I used it again today and did the whole house, I have oak flooring in the rest of the house so had a go at that and feel really pleased with myself now, so you might be luck if I run out of floors to do |

I have just bought a steam mop and used it this week I have floor tilles in the kitchen and bathrooms and its done a great job, very easy to use and they look really clean. |

Barefoot unicorn yes they are not very forgiving when you drop anything on them, been there with the glass  i hate mine and wish we could afford to rip them up and put something else down. My friend has stone flags and they seem far better than our slate tiles as not so much grout to clean Steamer is sorted so getting excited now about cleaning which is not like me at all, could of done with it today as its lashing down outside so an in house day, even my horses are having a duvet day . |

The slate floor we have is really old english flagstone. It is a perfect floor, until you drop anything on it....esp glass, you end up finding it in different galaxies . It is very hard and does not show dirt and will not slither or chip off, I think some of the imported slate does. Have had quarry tiles before and I ended up on a loop cleaning.Showed every speck and footprint.

Karcher SC 1.020 is the model.
You hoover the loose dirt away then steam and the remaining dirt is picked up by the cloth pad. The great thing is that the floors are disinfected by the heat and they don't get wet like they do when you mop. |

The dirt gets sucked up onto the pad, which you then pop into the washing machine |

Will look that one up Barefoot unicorn, do you like your slate floors ? i hate mine, we had them put in a few years ago and i would rip them up tomorrow but OH says they cost too much to rip up  but of course he dosen,t have to clean them.
Goldenmane best not to ask We have been looking at them today and i am faffing about which one to get
Wish we were rich i could just get a cleaner |

I love this thread... we have slate floors and I bought a FB Scott steam cleaner and it was fantastic, the floors have never been so clean.These are really old flag stone floors, that had only ever been mopped, so looked clean, but dirty when you wiped the floor as the mop just moves dirty water around.
Also good on carpets. I bought a seperate hand held one for tiles, windows,etc but to be honest, it wasnt as good as I thought.
I am going to buy a new one as that one has died( rough! overuse!!)
Just going to get similar priced on for about £30 from one of the local factory stores.
Ruddy cleaning At least you do this steaming lark and you know its clean |

Thats good news Judith S , we have 2 slate floors and 3 rooms where there are quarry floor tiles so a big job and yes i think we also need one man enough for the job, which model did you buy ? |

Not bulky at all, very lightweight and a tank of water does 2 large rooms comfortably. They are the only ones that looked 'man' enough for the job. |

Judith S, we have a Karcher pressure washer thats 12yrs now and has been fab despite looking worse for wear after many incidents over the years. I have been looking at the Karcher ones but wondering if they may be a bit bulky to carry round. |

We got the Karcher one when it was half-price at B&Q, down to about £80. Brilliant for slate, wood & tiled floors and also brill for removing all the baked-on grime around the top of the range cooker. All round excellent investment. |
