Its now gales, storms and swollen rivers for West Wales! Been raging all night long. Too early to assess damage ..... not light yet!
Zan Posted - 12 Dec 2011 : 9:03:31 PM
Thanks everyone for your kind messages.

Im in ayrshire and suprisingly our storm damage wasnt too bad considering we had 80-90mph winds. Had to go out and fix a horses rug and got pelted with massive hailstones...ouch! Wish Id had my phone to video the movement of the hail, very strange looking.
This weeks weather is supposed to be bad too :(

Zan Im sorry to hear about your mum, thoughts are with you. x

Heather I am so sorry for your loss. ((HUGGS)

Take care everyone up there,... we are having storms and winds, but nothing to what you guys are dealing with.
Paresh Posted - 10 Dec 2011 : 5:55:25 PM
zan sorry to hear about your mum.

We ended up loosing power again, 4hours after it went on, and it was off for nearly an other 24hours, total nightmare, ended up going to bed at 8.30 and not geting up till gone 7.30 this morning as it was still to dark to do anything. But did get up during the night to top up the stove as at least it kept a bit of the chill from desending on us. Not till we dont have it that we realise how much we use it and depend on it. But at least we managed to get our dinner cooked last night and eaten before it went off again with a bang.

Hope you have all survived!

Zan, sorry to hear about your Mum.

Pasch, yes, I think I must have accidentally hit the nail on the head there, I think Fee does need to get 'tied up' with a nice vet

gossy Posted - 10 Dec 2011 : 07:18:58 AM
so sorry to hear about your mum heather, thinking of you xx
Fee Posted - 10 Dec 2011 : 03:10:32 AM
Aww Zan, so very sorry to hear about your mum. What a worry trying to get a close family members funeral with it being pretty much chaos travelling up here. So glad you made it, to you.

My buildings are ok too, but there sure ain't no cobwebs here anymore! We were sent home early from work and I arrived to find Po and Jinny very lame (the non laminitis/non lame ones!) it was a no travel so vet couldn't come. All I could do was give them danilon and keep them comfortable until the next day. Vet came last night and they both have abscesses! So that's me with all 4 in

Fee

PS thanks for thinking and asking about me and mine, that was kind and appreciated.
Zan Posted - 09 Dec 2011 : 11:13:33 PM
My animals and buildings are all fine thanks.
It was my wonderful mother's funeral in Aberdeen this morning and I live 30+ miles south of Edinburgh. With the weather the way it was great friends rallied round to care for the animals and get me into Edinburgh to catch a train yesterday to reduce my stress and make sure I got there, but all the trains from Edinburgh to Aberdeen were cancelled throughout the day, because of closed bridges etc. Finally got one at 9pm which went a diverted route and a 50mph speed limit and had to keep stopping to check the line was safe because signals were down. Got in to Stonehaven, south of Aberdeen near where my brother lives, at 3am--a journey that usually takes 2 hours took 6, and my poor brother, on his way to collect me at that unearthly hour, had to reverse up a single track road for about half a mile because of a fallen tree.
I really thought at one point I wasn't going to be able to get to my mother's funeral--driving would have been impossible--but thanks to help and kindness of others I did.

Pop,when I read about Fee being tied up for a moment I had the image of her being tied somewhere so she wouldn't fly away with the wind..Have not been following Uk weather forecasts so have no idea what's going on,just hope everybody is ok.
Pop Posted - 09 Dec 2011 : 7:24:46 PM

Paresh Posted - 09 Dec 2011 : 4:27:04 PM
it was wild wild wild, think we got off lightly compaired to some, my horses all had a duvet day as it was to dangerous to turn them out, there was sheet ice every where and torental rain as well, we only lost one tile from the roof and a few sheets of roofing off the pump house, but had no power from before midnight till around 3pm this afternoon.
Luckily we did not get the blizzards that were forecast either and today has been a lovley calm day, which was just as well with 5 boxes to muck out from the duvet day yesterday.

Stay safe everyone xxxx

All our girls had a pyjama day yesterday, and loved it!! The only casualty at the yard was one of my window boxes I'd planted up which landed with a splat and is now sadly deceased. Heck of slot of trips to the dungheap this morning though!! Don't like no turnout, even if Fara does.
gossy Posted - 09 Dec 2011 : 10:11:44 AM
yes i was thinking of Zan and Fee in particular yesterday!
Ennik Posted - 09 Dec 2011 : 07:54:35 AM
Sab2 ......... Baler twine - always known in my area as 'farmers friend'. Definitely a woman's friend - as eliminates the necessity of walking around with a hammer and nails permanently attached to one's belt!
Pop Posted - 08 Dec 2011 : 10:02:51 PM
Sab2, well you had me , North Pennines - Scotland; a saddy from the South cannot see much difference - I will make a point of looking at the difference. But, out of interest, when you drive to Scotland on the MWay, you go thru some of the most breathtaking rugged mountains which are beyond imagination. I tried to video them as I drove, but ended up videoing me driving (camera wrong way round), would those be the Pennines? Just utterly amazing.

P.S. I've always wanted to run a seminar - "1001 useful things you can do with bale twine"
LesleyA Posted - 08 Dec 2011 : 9:58:20 PM
Thanks everyone! I'm in the South East and it's been pretty bad here and still hasn't subsided much yet. My horses were on a high with it and their rugs looked like wind tunnels on their backs so got them in early. Hope it's calmer tomorrow.
sab2 Posted - 08 Dec 2011 : 9:52:15 PM
No Pop were in North Pennines , ive just been out wrestling with feed room doors, ended up tying them with baler twine as the bolts won,t hold, very windy here now , was talking to a friend in Scotland and they said it was dreadful up there, lets hope everybody is ok.

Pop Posted - 08 Dec 2011 : 9:14:04 PM
Seconded. I'm in the South and spent a good hour pinning down anything which could take flight, must be awful up there.

Edited: thirded then , beaten on the draw there Sab You in Scotland are you? How is it?
