Arabian horses............I am in emotional turmoil a friend of mine was telling me about her family, that her sisters ex husband had remarried, had a child and then she commited suicide, leaving behind her beloved arabian horses apparently they were the love of her life, and she said that the husband would be selling them and me being me asked if she would ask him if I could go and look at them, NOT to buy just to see them Well, my friend phoned me and said that she had asked him and that apparently she had told him about my arabs and how wnderful they were and then he said that I could have them I don't hav the room for 3 more horses but now for the emotional side of things, the Stallion is 27 bless him and from what I understand all his owners have died and there are two mares that are 16 years old My heart goes out to these horses, the husband is looking after them very well, but if he would GIVE them to me, surely he would give them to anyone and thats the problem, we all know what people are like, would take them and then immediately sell them on, which to my mind is horrific, poor things. Maybe I should not go, but then it will play on my mind or maybe I should go and talk to the gentlemen concerned and tell him of my thoughts and maybe find fab permanant homes for them with a contract or something it is going to take me five hours to drive there but I feel that I cannot do nothing this is when I wish I had loads more land and not so much forestryanyway I will keep you all updated, try to take some pics etc and see what he says, apparently he is a very private man so will have to tread carefully, I am just concerned about the horses

Yes will do, I might ring him tonight to find out their names etc. The trouble is I am thinking of getting another arab or similar as my grand daughter is desperate for a horse and I have said I will get one for her, but it needs to be old methinks so that it is happy just for occasional hacking and being a companion to my other mare when I ride Milly out, I can ride it occasionally when my grand daughter is not here and so it is not wasted I thought something old/aged that still likes to do a little, preferably a mare as I don't really like turning geldings out with my mares, but the thought of taking three on is just not possible for me, so hopefully I can do something to help, although I am not sure what at the moment, its a shame one of the mares is not really old and ploddy

I really hope so, I am worried that he will let them go with the house as when we were looking at property here alot of people who had donkeys and horses said that the animals went with the house and "do what you want with them" I found it all rather upsetting

Well, he was selling them, thats what I was told by my friend, it was only when she spoke to him that he said I could have them, I did not say I wanted them!!!! I was just interested in going to see them, I love going to different peoples and seeing their horses, to me that is the best day out ever sorrybut the stallion is 30 I beleive, so I am concerned as to what happens to him, I am a big softy, maybe I can talk him into keeping him until the end of his days??? I don't know till I go there and meet him, but he looks after them very well apparently and his wife obviously adored them from what he was saying and from what my friend told me as my friend was warning me about my love of my horses, and thats how I found out about them, she was worried that I was obsessed by my horses and said that this is what happened. riddiculous as I would never ever kill myself as would worry too much about the future of my horses, its strange how people think if you love your animals sooo much that maybe there must be something wrong with you, I had to laugh at her thoughthis poor woman must have been dreadfully unhappy and ill to have done this and I really do not believe the horses or her love for them had anything to do with it, she also leaves a 10 year old boy, I just think its so very sad

Sadly this is happening more and more ! I have been offered horses for free because they know they would be well looked after here , BUT I am a pensioner I dont have bottomless pockets I owe it to my own horses to look after them as best I can , so I have had to say no to homing someone elses horses, leaving me wondering what will become of them
Offira Posted - 22 Jan 2010 : 11:01:38 AM
Oh my goodness, three horses to rehome - that is a big ask.

There seem to be so many horses needing homes nowadays, perhaps we just hear more about them now.

Just going to see them will be heart wrenching enough, it must be awful for the husband too seeing his wife's beloved horses everyday.

What a sad story
