Does anyone have a good plausable suggestion I can use to get the afternoon off work on Monday?!

I've had an interview for a job I applied for before Christmas and they have now invited me for a second interview this coming Monday. I'm really chuffed, but can't think what excuse to use to get away at 1pm to go to this interview!! I used the dentist for the first one, so thats out now. My boss isn't the most approachable, so it's a difficult one.

I'm open to any ideas!!

If your boss is male, take the whole day off and trot out 'Ladies Problems' - they NEVER ask questions!!!!! but if he does he has a problem
geegee Posted - 14 Jan 2010 : 1:18:09 PM
Oooh "Do as I say and not as I do!"

I get so frustrated with people like that....
Qui Gon Jinn Posted - 14 Jan 2010 : 12:24:49 PM
I can't tell them I am going for an interview, as my life would be made unbearable!!

I'm just going to have to take a days holiday I think. I had hoped to speak to my boss today, but she isn't here and isn't planning to come in due to a little bit of snow! I'm angry, as last week when we were completely snowed in, she didn't really believe me and wouldn't pay the staff that hadn't managed to get to work!! Double standards or what?!
Pasha Posted - 14 Jan 2010 : 09:58:54 AM
No don't tell the truth! If they know you're looking and you don't end up going it won't make for a happy working relationship going forward....

BUT I wouldn't pull a sickie either - I would take a days holiday or half day and if they questioned the urgency/short notice of it, just say it's for personal reasons that you don't wish to discuss - if it's holiday, they cannot make you tell

Why do men always have the best ideas? smear test is definitely a good one.

I would never have been able to tell the truth at my old work, my boss was such a child - he would have said something like 'oh if that's the way you feel...' and made my life even more hellish!
sub Posted - 14 Jan 2010 : 09:23:30 AM
Why not tell the truth?
They can't stop you from going for an interview with another company - they have to allow you to go.

Only problem is (as a pessimist!) if you don't get the job, it makes current one a bit difficult!!

I told my boss I was going for an interview - said it was closer to home and more money (which it was).
Handed in my notice the following day as I was offered the job there and then!
lisa b Posted - 14 Jan 2010 : 12:26:01 AM
ewww...always go with the smear test!!!! people always find that TOO dodgey to question!!!! lol xx
Qui Gon Jinn Posted - 13 Jan 2010 : 11:43:43 PM
Hee Hee!! You lot are a right devious bunch! I'll need to sort this out tomorrow I think, so may just go with the Smear Test option that my OH suggested!

God help me if I get the job as then it will be a bit of a give away that I've been up to no good, when I hand in my notice. I'll let you all know how it goes.
Quarabian Posted - 13 Jan 2010 : 10:50:02 PM
If the job is what you wan't tell them you were abducted by aliens, hit by a meteorite, turned into a frog, fell off your horse and lost your memory, I could go on, or you could just have the worst migraine you have ever had.

Good luck with the interview
deebee Posted - 13 Jan 2010 : 8:09:34 PM
I'm with geegee, if possible - if I used anything else I'd give myself away when everyone said 'are you feeling better' etc, and say 'why?'

I might try a touch of colic in my horse, so that I had to sit with her to make sure she's safe, if they're sympathetic - then you could get away with forgetting 'coz you're so tired...
Qui Gon Jinn Posted - 13 Jan 2010 : 5:37:24 PM
Thanks guys. I did think about having a bad migrane and not making it in, but then I think she would be suspicious as I've never had time off in the last 7 years with any migranes I've had!

I did think about using the farrier as an excuse too and that may well be what I end up using........even though none of mine are actually shod and the farrier actually came today (my OH was at home for him fortunately!)
geegee Posted - 13 Jan 2010 : 5:37:21 PM
Days holiday? That way you won't get found out......slip up....or get a sick mark.

I can't lie, I'd forget and drop myself in it
mad alice Posted - 13 Jan 2010 : 5:36:20 PM
Have the whole day then you can prepare and not be rushing, i think an upset stomach should cover it, tell them
you can't keep anything down. Then id take tuesday too just to make it seem plausable!!!

Oops should say this is Dinkidoo just realised im logged on as my mum!! There is no way she would pull a sicky I have different morals re work lol
lisa b Posted - 13 Jan 2010 : 5:34:52 PM

moatside Posted - 13 Jan 2010 : 5:29:38 PM
Can you not have an urgent vist from the farrier - lost shoe? Or as Lyndilou says - take a sickie??
