I have terrible sleep patterns but I now take my ipod to bed and listen to audio books. It takes me ages to get through a book as I always fall asleep listening to them.

Hello..... zzzzzz you could always come and look after my 11 day old baby and i'll swap you, would give you something to do when you wake up ?!

Seriously pregnancy works, i slept for 9 months i think....other than that i defo recommend Rescue Remedy and really chilled out music..... it's horrible not being able to sleep, i went through a phase when i was very stressed at work and it's so difficult to get your mind to stop racing. Yoga and meditation also helps, there are some meditation exercises that calm the "monkey mind" you relax and imagine a jungle and a lion roaring, birds squawking, elephants trumpeting, lots and lots of noise and then you search for a single songbird and zone in on it and it's tune above the din of the jungle... sounds barking mad but does work, i promise.... well it does for me, secret hippy i think!

M Robson - 'if that doesn't work, get pregnant!' I LIKE it

My nan used to tell us bunny stories before bed. I don't think it was to get us to sleep though - so many little bunnies got drowned, baby hedgehogs run over etc.....

The moral of the story was always - 'if you don't do what your mummy says, you will die a horrible death.....'!

the doc can advise on 'sleep hygiene' - like your bedroom is for sleeping, no tv, hot shower etc etc
Meditation? Just ot help you switch your brain off? You're a caffeine nut anyway but exercise is a good one too so leave your mucking out until evening??
Turn your matress, or have a session with a chiro - I could sleep for 3days after a treatment but it does help in general too

A good Jack Daniels and a real good book, if that does not work, get pregnant!! You will crave every bit of sleep on offer!!

I'm exactly the same as you. But I'll always fall asleep in front of the telly
katherineepea Posted - 08 Jun 2009 : 8:37:43 PM
me too!!! i want to be able to just sleep!
and im always always tired when my alarm goes off but on the weekends i generally wake up before it goes off. it annoys me SO much!

This sounds peculiar but it might work... get into the habit of telling yourself 'sleepy' type stories (make them up: bunnies in their burrows, wild horse adventures, whatever) as you snuggle down. When you wake up, start telling yourself the stories again (same sort of story). Keep this up every time you wake up. Atter a time, with luck, your mind will associate the 'sleepy story' with going to sleep and hey presto! Knockout.

Well, works for me anyway. Rarely wake up and can't get back to sleep. Also v good if I want a quick nap.

Drink warm milk with a teaspoon of treacle before bed.

Sorry, I am one of those 'head hits the pillow and i'm out like a light'... I can sleep anywhere, anytime day or night regardless of caffeine consumption (I often have a tea or coffee just before bed).

I put it down to the fact that i'm not in there long - usually 10:30 to 05:00 and I hardly ever sleep past 07:00 on the weekend - just too much to do!

BUT my boyf bless him is like this - stopped him playing his xbox or going on the pc late at night and he's getting much better! I make him snuggle on the sofa, have a herbal tea and just chill from about 8pm onwards and also make him stick to a routine - go to bed at exactly the same time and get up at exactly the same time (like you would with a baby) - seems to work for him! Took a week of 'no sleep' and he now sleeps through much better!

Sx

Have you tried Bach Flower Remedies - I use White Chestnut, it stops your mind racing. If it gets really bad I take some Rescue Remedy too!! About 20 mins and feel all calm and sleepy again Oh - no caffeine after about 3pm either!!

Good luck - there's nothing worse
