Following quite a hectic week, as far as shows are concerned,
Bolton Arab Show took place on the glorious and sunny Saturday
following the Cheshire Show. With what this show has on offer
it seems a pity that more people did not support it. The showground
itself is so easy to get to, situated just a couple of miles
from the motorway not far from Bolton Town Centre and in the
Country Park. There is excellent parking space with good access
for both horseboxes and cars. Caterers attend and there are
permanent washrooms and facilities.
What was lacking in numbers, was more than made up for with
quality, Mrs. S. Pyke, from North Wales was judging the in-hand
sections, commented on the quality of horses brought before
her. High Tor Arabian Stud from Hambleton brought out their
two year old filly HT Ormuz (Thee Equalizer x HT Obsession),
to win her class and then not only went on to take the Pure
Bred In-Hand Championship, but the Overall Supreme In-Hand Title
as well. Her dam, HT Obsession, (Dakshah x Bint Fikri) won the
mares 4 years old & over, and yet another Dakshah daughter,
HT Naomi (Dakshah x Naamoura), owned by Miss L. Rankin, continued
the success in true family tradition winning her yearling class
and then taking the Reserve Pure Bred Arab In-Hand Champions
title, so an excellent day for High Tor.
A very promising yearling colt L.A. Picasso, (Ras al Jadi x
Sonic Saint), owned by Mr. A. Taylor, took the first class,
unchallenged, but he has been making his mark recently with
good results at both, The North Western and The North West Groups
shows, definitely one to watch for the future. The gelding classes
had some really lovely animals forward, Mrs Pyke again commented
on how pleasing it is to see so many good prospective performance
horses, with sound conformation and good limbs. The 1/2/3 yr
olds saw top honours going to the Vodolej son, Chanzes R, (Vodolej
x Focus Galliano), a very charismatic three year old. The four
year old & over Geldings, one of the bigger classes at the
show, this time had HT Favio, (Shaikh Al Kuran x Bint Fikri),
heading the line.
A fairly recent acquisition for Sue Brown, from Cheshire was
the very nice bay stallion Ellectron, (Eukaliptus x Sasza),
who won his class in fine style over Omar el Kheil (Sharik el
Kheil x Dageegah), who didn't seem to settle as well as I have
seen him do on previous occasions.
The Anglo & Part-Bred Arab In-Hand section saw another
successful result recorded for Chasecroft Dimple, (Telynau Piersporter
x Chasecroft Dolly Daydream), owned by Margaret Ogden and again
expertly shown by fourteen year old Rebecca Georgeson. Repeating
her Cheshire result she took the Reserve Championship title
in the section, on this occasion to Stychlands Noble Heir. (Strinesdale
Matador x Fairley Venitia) "Dimple" is certainly getting
noticed; she is one of the nicest fillies on the show circuit
this year and I am sure destined for top honours before too
long. Stychlands Noble Heir owned by Mrs M Beeston finished
his successful day being awarded the Overall Reserve Supreme
In-Hand Champion of the show.
Ridden classes, in previous years have had good support here,
but again the popularity and demand for the prime show dates
in these crucial summer months has taken it toll, the four ridden
Anglo & Part-Bred Arab Classes received no entries at all,
probably due to another big show, a few miles away, attracting
the exhibitors.
Antonia Mitchell, was appointed to judge the Ridden sections,
so gave all her attention to the Pure Bred Ridden Classes which
brought forth some extremely nice horses. Chloe Thorne with
her beautifully presented gelding, Kaaih, (Kaih x Aji Atallah),
took first place in the class for Novice Ridden Stallion/Mares/Geldings,
above Shadenco, (Decco x Shadena), owned and ridden by S. Cuddon,
with third place going to El Cheszaar with C. Beswick-Wild.
The Open ridden Mares had only two forward, first place awarded
to a really lovely chestnut mare, Mandala, (Militaire x El Korrinna),
who went extremely well for both her owner S. Loughlin and the
judge. The Ridden Champion & Reserve was taken from the
final Ridden Class of the day, the Open Ridden Stallions &
Geldings. Maleikero, (Dakshah x Mel Queda), had made the journey
from the midlands with his owner Andrea Boyle, who seemed quite
impressed with the show commented "I've brought him to
give him a day out by himself" He certainly looked superb,
settled well and deserved his first prize and Championship.
Second place and Reserve Ridden Champion went to local owners
Mike & Jayne Johnson with their stallion Rashiek Ibn Malik,
being ridden as competently as ever by Joanna Smith.
It really is so nice to see some exhibitors taking the trouble
to travel and support as many of the Arab Shows as possible,
large or small. With escalating costs, the smaller shows and
affiliated sections need the support of exhibitors and sponsors
to survive. Hopefully there will be more entries next year.
It is such a good little show and perfect for Youngstock and
Novices, so make a note in your Forward Planner, Bolton Arab
Show is always on the Saturday after Cheshire County Show. Looking
forward to seeing you in 2004.
