British International riders mounted on grey pure breds
from Argentina provided an exciting finish to Endurance
GB’s Ossie Hare Memorial Trophy 100km ER run from
Tenantry Farm at Breamore. Chris Yeoman on ZT Shaknamar
- an El Shalklan grandson- and Katie Smith on El Carlia – winner
of the 2004 Alfred’s Tower 160km ER - were neck and
neck throughout the ride and galloped in on the lovely
old turf of the UK Chasers course in a thrilling racing
finish. The judge’s decision was that ZT Shaknamar
had won by the shortest of short heads.
Katie has continued in a successful vein by winning the very tough FEI
160km Florac ride in France. She is the first British rider ever to win
the ride, which is rated with the Tevis Cup in America and the Quilty in
Australia as one of the toughest rides in the World.
