SERC
The
Scottish Endurance Riding Club has its origins
in the Highland Long Distance Riding
Club, founded in 1982 in Inverness. The Club
quickly grew, and now there are nine Branches,
serving
the whole of Scotland, and hosting around 100
rides a year. Ride terrain is hugely varied – from
beaches to race courses, mountains to moorland – and
many rides are virtually 100% offroad, and in some
of Scotland’s most beautiful and remote
locations.
Many
of our rides attract 50-70 entries, allowing
for a good level of competition while maintaining
the Club’s reputation for friendliness. Camping
and corralling are an increasing feature of many
rides, reflecting the willingness of those at the
extreme ends of the country to attend rides many
miles from home.
We have many members who are happy to do Pleasure
rides only, but most opt to progress through the
SERC grading system. This starts at Bronze Level
(up to 50k), progressing to Silver (65k) and Gold
(80k) Series, and in recent years Platinum (120k)
and Diamond (160k) level, for both horses and riders.
SERC members travel far and wide in pursuit of
their sport, and several have been selected for
the British endurance squads. Our Home International
teams have been very successful over the years,
and carried off the Gold Medal in 2007 at the Red
Dragon ride.
In 2007 we were proud to host the first FEI 2*
ride in Scotland, and hope to expand on that in
2008.
SERC
is separate from, but affiliated to, Endurance
GB, and further details can be found on www.scottishendurance.com
