The May bank holiday weekend of the 3rd and 4th will see Endurance
Riders from the length and breadth of the country converging on the
Berkshire Downs above Wantage. 25 combinations are entered for the top
class; The Southern Championship, a two day 160km endurance ride.With
a different course each day, the ground is at the mercy of the spring
weather but is likely to see some fast going and fierce competition
with Cheryl Logan's Khairho defending the title he has won twice. Another
30 or so riders will line up for the 65km endurance ride on Sunday,
which incorporates a separate Tyro ER class. The remaining 100+ riders
each day will tackle a variety of set speed and graded ride combinations,
many taking advantage of the Berkshire Downs undulating terrain to give
their horses a final workout before the Golden Horseshoe.
The winner of the top class will take home a Pathfinder endurance saddle,
generously sponsored by Keith Bryant Saddlery. Prizes for the Southern
Championship and for supporting classes have also been sponsored by
NFU (£75 voucher), SP Equine Health and Herbal, and Performance
Equestrian.
