The
final selection for the Endurance GB Young Riders’ Team
to contest the World Championships in Bahrain in December will
take place at the Sherwood Ride, Blidworth, Notts, on 17 / 18
September. Throughout the year various fund raising events have
taken place to finance the team and have helped mould a focused
squad of optimistic young people. Amongst those hoping for a
place in the team are –
Rachel
Harvey (20 ) from Winscombe with her horses 7yo Prince
Imperial and 16yo Siyah. In 2004 Rachel completed the 160km one
day ride at Thetford on the former and the 160km two day Red
Dragon ride on the latter. She aims to improve her horsemanship,
stay focused, and be selected.
Philip
Hirst (19 ) from Powys has a 7yo horse with whom he completed
a 160km two day ride in Dubai in 2004. He spent a winter season
training in the UAE and hopes to be able to put this experience
to good use.
Abigail
Lockett (19 )from Stratford rides 15yo Delorto Zaranz.
She competed at Wicklow Hills in 1999 and in the Red Dragon in
2004. Her ambition for 2005 is to be selected for the team.
Gemma
Parkin (20 )from Derbyshire is riding Lutandorvici. She
completed the 160km one day ride at Thetford in 2004 and the
Dunkeries in 2005 and has a long list of achievements to her
credit.
Helen
Perry (14 ) from Co. Down rides 7yo Wesham. She completed
the one day ride at Dunkeries in 2004 and is one of the younger
members to contest a place on the Team.
Suzanne
Perry ( 19 ) from Co. Down has a selection of horses
and has already competed in the Junior and Junior Riders Championships
in Italy in 2003. Suzanne completed the 160km one day Summer
Solstice in 2003. She hopes to qualify more of her horses for
top competition.
Anna
Williams (20 ) from Switzerland will ride her 8yo horse
Saboteur on whom she completed the 120km one day ride at Cirencester
in 2005. She completed the 160km Australian National Championships
in 2004 and is a very ambitious young endurance rider.
Here are seven very keen and talented young riders who will
be giving the selectors a tough task in choosing the final four
to represent Endurance GB over the sands in Bahrain.
