CG BALIH EL JAMAAL
x OM EL BENEDICT

Om El Bahreyn can be summed up in two words: Type and Temperament.

Bahreyn is the epitome of type in that he oozes looks, movement, structure, charisma and immense elegance and style.
All the qualities that you would expect from such an illustrious pedigree.
His temperament is extraordinary. He grazes in fields next to mares, colts or geldings. He adores foals, talking to them through the fence most of the day ( he likes the little fillies swooning over him) and he nannies the weanlings over the adjoining stable wall. He is a true gentleman.
His intelligence and inquisitiveness mean he loves to learn, he can be turned out and brought in without a headcollar and he enjoys doing tricks(!)

I first saw Bahreyn as a yearling at Jay and Sigi Constanti's Om El Arab stud in Santa Ynez, California. I was very taken with him. I liked his pretty face, wide forehead, superb structure, body and topline and in particular his long, clean, well-set neck. However, he was lame! He had an abscess in his foot, so I couldn't see what is so important to me - movement, tail carriage and 'oomph'.

The day before I left Om El Arab, Bahreyn was sound. And that's when I fell in love with him. He bounced out of his stall, tail over his back and in between some very athletic bucks, twists and rears managed to show a super, ground-eating trot. Om El Bahreyn's fate was sealed. He was coming home to AV Arabians. I did try to ring Adam to ask if I could buy Bahreyn. Once. And the reception wasn't very good so maybe the phone didn't ring very long…

Two months later, the night before Adam and I were due to leave for a break at Jay and Sigi's, I knew I had only hours left to finally pluck up courage and tell him I'd bought another horse. A colt at that. Adam was half asleep in front of the fire, so I sort of whispered the news to him and somehow he didn't hear the last zero on the price……..

As an immature 2 year old in 2002 I only bred Bahreyn to one mare, in 2003 he bred 3 more, siring two fillies, for Michelle Fitz-Gerald and Delyth Gamlin, and a colt that has been exported to France.
He passes on type, structure, movement and charisma to all his babies.
In 2004, as well as stud duties, Bahreyn went to a few 'parties'. He was Champion or Reserve each time out and also had a bit of fun (possibly too much fun) doing some Liberty Classes.

Bahreyn loves to play at home, and always tries to learn, so I taught him a few 'tricks' while he was loose in the sandschool. These include walking towards and away from me and trotting and cantering in small circles around me with very impressive changes of rein on two legs - front or back!

As Bahreyn had only been in an indoor school a couple of times and found the experience too awesome to show off his spectacular trot, I thought I would enter him in the Liberty class at the UK Gold/Egyptian Event to give him more experience indoors. After a minute of bucks, leaps and blatting about, Bahreyn trotted straight up to me and I realised I might be able to get him to show off a bit of his repertoire. This he did, to great effect and won the class. I was very proud of him. So, I entered him in the Liberty at the UK International, Towerlands. Again, after the initial bursts of exuberance, Bahreyn gave his display of tricks and managed to win the class.

Late in 2004 I was pleased to be asked by Jay and Sigi to stand world-renowned Om El Extreem at AV Arabians for the 2005 breeding season.

In the meantime, Delyth Gamlin was so pleased with her beautiful filly, Bahnoffi, by Bahreyn out of a Ffatal daughter she wanted to pursue this cross. Bahnoffi is is indeed very pretty and pings her way everywhere with her tail curled over her back, making sure she is centre of attention at all times. So, Delyth finally got to lease Bahreyn at Peakland Arabians and hopefully there will be more gorgeous fillies pinging their way around next year! And of course, those who go to Delyth's will be able to see both Bahreyn and Bahnoffi.

I sincerely hope that everyone who has an Om El Bahreyn baby gets as much enjoyment out of them as I have out of owning him. He is a horse that loves life, has an immense presence and a gentle soul. My friend.
