Uttoxeter 24th July 2004

PRIDE OF JAMES
Owner: Mr S M Shefras, Trainer: Mr Stuart Shefras, Jockey: Mr S A Walker.

Winner of the PENN WOOD CHALLENGE (Series Qualifier) Handicap Stakes, sponsored by the winning owner, trainer Mr S Shefras. Pride Of James was always in command and the seven year old grey gelding, previously 4th to L'Escalou at Newbury on Dubai Day, made no mistake here, under Champion Arabian Jockey, Simon Walker, to win with ease

MAKHAI
Owner: Mr P D Rondel, Trainer: Mr P D Rondel, Jockey: Miss Aimee Hockley.

An exciting finish with MAKHAI just edging out the Mrs Jackie Hutchings owned and trained MAGHRIBA to win the Town & Country Novice Riders Classified Stakes, by half a length. Well ridden by Aimee Hockley, MAKHAI had shown glimpses of improvement in his previous outings and this five year old grey gelding by Khairouan (Fr), bred by H H SHeik Ahmed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, looks to be on the upgrade.

SARRAFINA
Owner: Mrs C Cone, Trainer: Mr P J Murphy, Jockey: Mr P J Murphy.

After some disappointing performances Sarrafina came good in style to win the Jebel Ali Racing Cklub Qualifier. A competitive field ensured the race was run at a good pace and SARRAFINA won gamely, beating Mrs Jackie Hutchings MELLWAY GOLD CHARM by the shortest of margins. Bred by Mrs C Cone and another winner on the day for Khairouan (Fr)

UTTOXETER NEWS IN BRIEF:

* Mrs Jackie Hutchings had a rewarding, if rather a disappointing day, with two runners being beaten into second place, AGHRIBA in the Town & Country Novice Riders at 3.30 and MELLWAY GOLD CHARM in the Jebel Ali Racing Club Series Qualifier at 4.00.

* Aimee Hockley, the winning rider on MAKHAI now joins Deb Crothers, Brett Norris and Kelly Turbutt (who gained a further 8 points to add to her previous 4 points when finishing second on MELLWAY GOLD CHARM) on 12 points in the Town & Country Farms Novice Riders Series, the winner of which at the end of the season will receive a month's working holiday, including flight to Town & Country Farms in Florida.

* Mrs G M Duffield strengthened her position at the head of the Trainers table by landing a double with KAMMARYAH in the 2.00 and LASKEM in the 4.30.

* The Mrs H L Bona trained, HAYLEY'S COMET, who had run at Newbury on Dubai Day, found the opposition at Uttoxeter more to his liking and won the concluding race ridden by Mr S Harrison at 5.00, whilst the Brunton band wagon continued on it's merry way by taking the third race, sponsored by themselves - The Clarendon Stud Classified Stakes - with CS PATRIARCH, a fast improving four year old who has won two of his last four starts and looks the type to continue improving.
