REPORT:

A good crowd attended the Exeter Race Meeting on the 2nd July 2005, one of the main highlights being Pierre Deymonaz riding his 100th winner on DANJANI in the MIDNITE DREAM CLASSIFIED STAKES, a race sponsored by well known arab racehorse trainer Carol Legg who was celebrating her birthday at Exeter.
The opening race went the way of the well bred favourite DANSEUR MONDAIN (FR) who won very easily for owner H H Sheik Hamdan Bin R Al Maktoum, trained by Mrs Gill Duffield and ridden by stylish Phil Collington.
MELLWAY GOLD CHARM returned to form providing young jockey Mr Bryan Adams with a deserved first success when winning the Town & Country Farms Novice Rider Stakes at 2.30. Trained, owned and bred by Mrs Jackie Hutchings, Mellway Gold Charm won a thrilling finish to the delight of her connections (see attached photograph). Anther popular winner was SPYROS, the first leg of a double for jockey David Turner, who is setting a hot pace at the top of the leading jockeys table with Phil Collington and reigning champion Simon Walker, both only one winner behind at the end of the days racing. SPYROS, trained by Tony Brunton for owners Mrs M Calvert (also the breeder) and Mrs G Moore, ran out a very easy winner of the Jebel Ali (Series Qualifier) Handicap at 3.30.
The Champion Anglo L'ESCALOU, continued his winning ways in the 4.00 race, The Penn Challenge Handicap Stakes, generously sponsored by Stuart Shefras, winning his 11th race from 14 starts, owned and trained by Bill Smith and ridden by Simon Walker. This superb bay gelding gave upwards of two stones to his three rivals to record a game win over runner-up PRIDE OF JAMES.
The closing race of the afternoon gave David Turner his second success of the day on CS PATRIARCH, a five year old who showed he is still on the upgrade by defeating two other top class performers in DJELDOR DE BOZOULS (FR) and SHAHNGALI. .
