1st July - The Emirates Arabian International Stakes (Group
2)
Djoumis
De Leyre, trained by Mr R Sedgley and owned by Mr K A Al Ghuraiur,
ran out an easy winner of the Group 2 race at Newbury, given
an inspired ride by Micky Fenton, winning by 1 1/4 length from
Shahngali (Mr P Deymonaz), with the favourite Djeldor De Bozouls
(Michael Hills) the same distance back in third. The six runner
race looked destined to go the way of odds on favourite Djeldor
De Bozouls, but Djoumis De Lyre, who has the reputation of needing
things his own way, was ridden to perfection by Michael Fenton
and won without knowing he had been at the races.
