BENGALI
D’ALBRET (Cheri Bibi X Mangalie D’Albret
(Manganate)
Bengali D’Albret was an incredible race horse, the winner
of 16 races from 24 starts, he remains the only Arabian racehorse
to have won the triple crown two years in a row. As a racehorse
he was renowned for his tough attitude and pure will to win.
With Cheri Bibi as his sire and Manganate his broodmare sire,
his pedigree has always assured - along with his outstanding
success on the racetrack - that he would be much sought after
as a sire. His first crop in 2000 included the useful Barq (X
Pesennaia (Naftalin)) who won the Group 2 Jumeirah International,
his progeny’s results went from strength to strength with
him being Champion sire in 2002 and 2003. However, it is this
season’s results that have classed him as sire of note
as he has recorded another season as Champion sire and is also
second in the Group sire statistics and it is this achievement
that cements his position as a sire of substance. His Group winners
this year have all be trained by Tony Brunton, the first Shahngali
(x Affecshahn (Derbist)) won the opening race of the season a
Group 3 over seven furlongs, he also went on to score in a valuable
handicap over five furlongs at Bath and over six furlongs at
Stratford for owner Tracey Wright. Undoubtedly his finest progeny
to date has been CS Camellia (X Ciarosa (Ciato)) who outbattled
multiple Group winner Dormah De Brugere to victory in the Group
1 Hatta Mares Stakes over one mile two furlongs on Dubai Day.
He then had another winner when CS Al Wahed (X Cikada (Klarnet))
won the Group 2 Stayers race over two miles at Newbury beating
Dubai Stakes runner up Juma in the process. The last two are
owned and bred by Michael Brunton – who once again is the
top breeder in the UK. A versatile sire who has now sired Group
winners from seven furlongs to two miles with a Group 1 middle
distance performer as well, his stock seem to be late maturing
as Shahngali and CS Camellia are both five and CS Al Wahed is
a six year old. Bengali D’Albret is Champion Group sire
as well as Champion in 2004. His other winners this season have
included: Almost All (x Emotsia (Esplendor) – won one mile
four furlong maiden, Benedikt (x Duiker (Galeon) – won
five furlong handicap sprint, Khaliber (x Khaddouj (Haroun) – won
over two miles and one mile four furlongs, Kammarayah (X Aicha
Tourettes (Dormane)) – won one mile two furlong maiden,
Lamasat (X Komet (Kesberoy)) – won one mile maiden, Muthaaber
(X Volna (Anchar)) won six furlong maiden.

MAKZAN (Managanate X Miss Dior (Badr Bedur):
MAKZAN (Managanate
X Miss Dior (Badr Bedur):
Makzan was
a phenomenal race horse and won 19 races including the Group
1 Zaabeel Stakes, the Al Nahyan Stakes, the US Turf
Cup (USA) and the Qatar Sprint Championship. He had his first
proper season as a sire in the UK with several useful four
year olds to represent him this year. However, last season
his first
juvenile runner in the UK FH Dynamique (X Desna (Kumir)) was
second in a juvenile race at Chepstow over six furlongs. Makzan
has had several winners in America and Qatar including Pigaro
(won Futurity Cup Holland 2003), Miqdam, Jawlan, Rzoe Lute,
Lattamah, Dhahmaan, Jaheen, Badawi, Mohifa, Mujah and Muharib.
But this
season CS Patriarch (x Pokrovka (Desant)) has flown the flag
for him in fine style winning four times including the Al Attiya
Maiden Stakes over seven furlongs at Lingfield and being placed
second twice and third his worst result. Patriarch who’s
dam won a couple of lowly 0-45 handicaps crowned his spectacular
season with an emphatic win at Newmarket over seven furlongs
where he showed guts to get up on the line to beat one time Derby
hope Bengal Lotois. Makzan is also the sire of the useful looking
Mack The Knife (X GAS Pepelka (Pepel)) who won his maiden nicely
at Stratford over a mile and then trounced his rivals in a valuable
handicap at Chepstow over one mile two furlongs where he beat
subsequent winner Fedor Du Bournais. Maksun Angel (X Island Sunrise
(Parmant)) also won a maiden over one mile two furlongs and was
placed second in his two other starts. Miss Moncrieff (x Zeinah
(Samsheik) didn’t win this season but showed her sire’s
true grit in several notable performances including when narrowly
beaten over seven furlongs in the Emirates Breeders Society Stakes
on Dubai Day by stable mate The Vertuous Crusader, she was also
third behind the Mack The Knife in another competitive handicap
at Chepstow over one mile two furlongs, she was then narrowly
beaten into second at the line by Deolali over a mile before
finishing her season with a staying on third behind Patriarch
at Newmarket. She will without a doubt lose her maiden tag next
season.

season as a four year old in 2002 including the valuable
Jebel Ali Final at Newmarket over one mile two furlongs.
This season
though has been his best as a sire with two Group winners,
and it is this that defines a sire of note – the abilitity
to sire a Group winner and a maiden winner. Aljard (x Ester
Du Paon (Cheri Bibi)) romped home in the seven furlong Group
2 Jumeriah International on Dubai Day. Kolver (x Kenithra (Djouras
Tu)) then was beaten less than half a length into third in
the Group 1 Hatta Mares Stakes. Kolver, however, did win nicely
over a mile at Exeter in May beating subsequent feature handicap

win in the Umm Qarn Farms Cup Group 2 over a mile at Newmarket
where she had useful Group performers Dormah De Brugere and
