PAUL SIMMONS OFFICIAL RACE REPORTER

Salisbury 3rd September
By Paul Simmons

Track: Good to soft

The Allington Maiden Stakes over 7 Furlongs:
1. Nokomys Mr. S Harrison
2. Deraasaat Mr. P Collington
3. CS Charma Mr. S Holdsworth

Distances: 1, 2 ½ 5 ran Time: 01:46:50

Winner owned and bred by Ms. J Haddock. Trained by Miss S Davison.

There was a steady pace from the start as CS Charma cut out the running with Earlsdon and Nokomys held up in behind. CS Charma upped the pace two furlongs out but Nokomys was going with consummate ease under Steve Harrison. From the final furlong the writing was on the wall as Nokomys (Amer x KTP Mystic Flight (Wiking)) cantered into the lead with Deraasaat flat out behind, she sauntered past the winning post in impressive style for owner/ breeder Jane Haddock and looks to have a big future. Deraasaat (Izentespeshal x Maderba De Piboul) was flattered by her proximity to the winner, she was well beaten but was to her credit clear of the rest of the field. CS Charma (Amer x Ciarosa (Ciato)) ran best of the three year olds and made a brave bid for an all the way victory, he is scopey sort and will undoubtedly improve next year.

The Bishopstone Handicap Stakes 0-90 over 6 Furlongs:
1. Kaich Mr. S Walker
2. Tash Reefat Mr. P Collington
3. CS Malik Mr. S Holdsworth

Distances: ¾, 1 ½ 7 ran Time: 01:26:30

Winner owned and bred by HH Sheikh Mohammed. Trained by Mr. W Smith.

Bill Smith has had a quieter than normal year but after a treble at Brighton last week he proved that his yard is clearly firing on all cylinders when Kaich (Khairouan x Aicha Croixnoire) blitzed away the opposition under a power packed ride from Simon Walker, this imposing came right this time last year and clearly appreciates the cut in the ground. Tash Reefat (Bengali D’Albret x Seglaoui) ran a brave race in defeat going down by half a length and, whilst CS Malik (Makzan x Ciarosa) was staying on at the end and was nearest at the finish.

The Thruxton Down Handicap Stakes 0-80 over 1 Mile 6 Furlongs:
1. Maestro Al Maury Mr. P Collington
2. Hellow Mr. S Walker
3. Fedor Du Bournais Mr. C Hughes

Distances: 1 ¼, 7 10 ran Time: 01:28:20

Winner owned by HH Sheikh Hamdan. Trained by Mrs. G Duffield. Bred by Mlle R L Koch.

CS Khan and Benha cut out the early running making sure this was a stiff test of stamina, from the seven furlong marker CS Clarion and CS Khan were competing for the lead with Maestro Al Maury and Hellow cruising in behind. With a furlong to go Phil Collington drove Maestro (Dormane x Melusine Al Maury) into the lead and the colt was all out to hold off the stands side challenge of Hellow (Kesberoy x Hafia De Faust) who was gaining with every stride but had to settle for second. Fedor Du Bournais (Djouras Tu x Cosete Du Bournais) was staying on dourly from the rest of the field and again looked to appreciate the cut in the ground.

The Brunton Publications Classified Stakes over 1 Mile:
1. Malik D’Or Mr. S Walker
2. Dormah De Brugere Mr. S Harrison
3. Lamasat Mr. P Collington

Distances: 1 ¼, 8 3 ran Time: 01:56:30

Winner owned by the MAUFU Syndicate. Trained by Mr. W Smith. Bred by Mme M Lopez & MJM De Fajole.

An interesting race with three Group class performers. Lamasat cut out the early running and from two furlongs out she was still three lengths clear with Malik D’Or being hard ridden and Dormah De Brugere struggling to go the pace. With a furlong to go Malik ranged upsides Lamasat and they were head to head until Lamasat’s stamina gave out as Dormah De Brugere’s kicked in, she chased Malik all the way to line on the stands side but Malik D’Or (Dormane x Malika Fontenay) got home by a length-and-a-quarter to give Simon Walker and Bill Smith a double. Dormah De Brugere (Dormane x Ballade Folle) seemed to get a second win the last furlong and stayed on strongly for second, whilst Lamasat (Bengali D’Albret x Komet) faded tamely and has yet to sparkle this year.

The Isobel Faulkner Handicap Stakes 0-65 over 6 Furlongs:
1. Pavots Dreamboy Mr. D Turner
2. SA Bibi Mr. P Collington
3. The Debator Mr. B Adams

Distances: 2 ½ , 1 ¾ 14 ran Time: 01:28:20

Winner owned and bred by Mr. E Legg. Trained by Miss. C Legg.

Carol Legg has long been referred to as the queen of the handicappers following her double Silver and Gold Final wins at Newmarket a couple of seasons ago. Her string always seems to start firing at this time of the year and Pavots Dreamboy (Pavot Al Maury x Autumn Dream) showed he was right back to his best with an emphatic victory under a power packed ride from David Turner. Kateland led from the start with The Debator and Pavots Dreamboy travelling well in behind, as they hit the one furlong marker Turner came with his run on Pavots Dreamboy and they kicked clear to win by an impressive two-and-a-half lengths. SA Bibi (Abitbi x Florich) was flying in the final furlong down the stands rail and would have been closer in another furlong, whilst The Debator (Bengali D’Albret x Djeba El Mels) was also finishing strongly and claimed third behind SA Bibi.

The Jebel Ali Racing Club Handicap Stakes 0-75 over 5 Furlongs:
1. Khulan Mr. S Walker
2. Cal Mora Pretender Mr. D Burton
3. Al Mamoon Mr. J Akehurst

Distances: 1, 2 4 ran Time: 01:12:40

Winner owned by HH Sheikh Hamdan. Trained by Mr. W Smith. Bred by Shadwell Estate Co. Ltd.

Khulan and Cal Mora Pretender cut out the running out front with Al Mamoon and Olivphaya settled in behind. With a furlong to run all four were in with a chance but Simon Walker was travelling supremely well on Khulan (Vert Olive x Tikis Tiffany) and went clear inside the final half furlong with Cal Mora Pretender chasing all the way to the line on the stands side, but Khulan prevailed at the line by a length to give Bill Smith and Simon Walker a treble on the day. Cal Mora Pretender (Bakara x Mora Pretenciosa) continues to hold her form this season and was a shade unlucky, whilst Al Mamoon (Passem Lotois x Al Hanoof) kept on for third.
