Track: Firm
The Shadwell Stud Maiden Stakes (3yrs old only) over 6 Furlongs:
1. CS Malik Mr. D Turner
2. Magie De Faust Mr. P Collington
3. Bab Tjadi Mr. S Holdsworth
Distances: 2,3 4 ran Time: 01:19:40
Winner owned and bred by Mr. M Brunton. Trained by Mr. A J Brunton.
CS Malik
(Makzan x Ciarosa) won as he liked on his race course debut
under top
weight and giving 8 lbs to the field. David Turner
who is riding at the top of his game this season made all under
the impressive colt – he sent Malik on after the field
ran the first furlong at a crawl, after two furlongs he was five
lengths clear and although he momentarily slowed at the three
furlong pole he soon ran on again when joined by Magie De Faust
and won impressively going two and half lengths clear at the
line. Magie De Faust (Dormane x Gina De Carrere) was far from
disgraced in second and will come on for the run, as will Bab
Tjadi (Tidjani x Ennagham) Bill Smiths runner who seemed to struggle
to go the pace but was running on at the end.
The
Penn Challenge Handicap Stakes 0-130 (Anglo & PBAs)
over 6 Furlongs:
1. Hardtoback Mr. R G Woollard
2. Call Me Risky Miss G M Kelleway
3. La Perruche Mr. P D Rondel
Distances: short head, 5 3 ran
Winner owned, bred and trained by Mrs. J Peyton.
Hardtoback
(Norton Challenger x Harem VII) is having a superb season for
owner/trainer/breeder
Jenny Peyton and took a notable
scalp in winning by half a length from the Gay Kelleway ridden
Call Me Risky (Risk Me x Call My Name) who had a massive task
under top weight and was giving the winner over 2 stone. The
pair duelled in the final furlong but Hardtoback out sprinted
Call Me Risky in determined fashion and is clearly in fine heart.
La Perruche (L’Estragon x Iron Bird) seemed to struggle
over this trip and finished third.
The
Town & Country
Farms Novice Rider Handicap Stakes 0-75 over 6 Furlongs:
1. Shelila Mr. J Akehurst
2. Kateland Mrs. V Murphy
3. Rasid Miss T Smith
Distances:
1 ½,
5 13 ran Time: 01:19:60
Winner owned by HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Trained
by Mrs. G Duffield. Bred by Shadwell Estate Company Ltd.
Gill Duffield’s yard is still in fine form and Shelila
(Bengali D’Albret x Arytmia) who has been running consistently
well over sprint distances all season finally opened her account
when out gunning her rivals over six furlongs. Always travelling
ominously well she showed a decent turn of foot to out sprint
the field and whilst she won’t be one of HH Sheikh Hamdan
Bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s leading lights she can pay her
way in handicaps at up to a mile. Kateland (Vert Olive x Fayrelands
Gold) ran another game race in second and is maintaining her
form, whilst Rasid (Chndaka x Kahina El Kihm) kept on for third.
The Jebel Ali Racing Club Handicap Stakes (Series Qualifier)
0-65 over 2 Miles:
1. Notid Mr. F J Offord
2. Mystic Dream Mr. P J Murphy
3. WA Savannah Sunrise Mr. R G Woollard
Distances: neck, 4 9 ran Time: 03:58:10
Winner owned by The BXPS Racing Partnership. Trained by Mr.
D J
Paton.
Notid (Tidjani
x Sherrie Noreen) outstayed his rivals in dour fashion over
this two
mile trip, a smart and versatile handicapper
and another of David Paton’s horses that continues to hold
his form this season. Mystic Dream (Abitibi x Autumn Dream) did
nothing wrong in second and seems to be coming back to form,
whilst WA Savannah Sunrise (Dantist x Sasparilla Sunrise) stayed
on dourly for third and remains well handicapped.
The Cole Hay Handicap Stakes 0-85 over 1 Mile:
1. Miss Moncrieff Mr. H Haynes
2. Pavots Dreamboy Mr. P J Murphy
3. Penny Black Mr. S Harrison
Distances: 2,1 6 ran Time: 01:47:00
Winner owned by Mr. E Phillpott. Trained by Miss. G Ward. Bred
by Mrs. G Hay.
Harry Haynes has succeeded where many have failed, he managed
to extract a win from the eternal bridesmaid Miss Moncrieff.
The filly has never run a bad race but had started to look reluctant
to actually get her head in front constantly filling the minor
places in spite of her immense ability. Miss Moncrieff (Makzan
x Zeinah) was given a superb ride under novice jockey Harry Haynes
and won nicely in what is sure to be a confidence boosting and
much deserved win. Pavots Dreamboy (Pavot Al Maury x Autumn Dream)
showed his first sign of form this season and seems to be coming
to hand and has slipped down the handicap to a fair mark, whilst
Penny Black (Chndaka x Pevunja) is going the right way and should
be winning soon at trips up to a mile.
The 40th Anniversary Maiden Stakes over 1 Mile 2 Furlongs:
1. Mabrum Mr. P Collington
2. Final Fling Mr. S Walker
3. Noni Mr. D Turner
Distances:
13, 1 ¾ 6
ran Time: 02:11:60
Winner owned by HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Trained
by Mrs. G Duffield. Bred by Shadwell Estate Company Ltd.
Gill Duffield
celebrated her second win of the meeting when the un-raced
debutant Mabrum
(Djebbel x Volna) won the maiden
in some style kicking clear in the final furlong by an easy eight
lengths at the line – giving new sire Djebbel his second
wide margin winning maiden winner in as many weeks. Second was
Final Fling (Djamel x FH Honey Mellon) for Bill Smith who travelled
well for a long way but was no match for the winner, whilst Noni
(Dormane x Cary De Carrere) stayed on for third and perhaps needs
a stiffer test of stamina.
The Larkinglass Farm Racecourse Stakes over 1 Mile 1 Furlong:
1. Dormah De Brugere Mr. P Deymonaz
2. Tarfih Mr. P J Murphy
3. Asham D’Aroco Mr. S Walker
Distances: 4,3 5 ran Time: 01:54:30
Winner owned by Mr. J D Kippen. Trained by Mr. A J Brunton.
Bred by Mlle N Barsi
Dormah De
Burgere (Dormane x Ballade Folle) showed her rivals a clean
pair of
heels as she blitzed clear of the field in the
home to win as she liked on the bridle, a classy filly she is
the one they all have to beat in the Group 1 Hatta Mares Stakes
on Dubai day on 14th August. Tarfih (Dormane x Simooma) ran a
personal best in second and stayed on purposefully in the final
furlong although it is hard to see her laying down a threat to
the winner in the Hatta Stakes. Asham D’Aroco (Dormane
x Asbaa D’Arcoco) ran an eye catching race on her UK debut
and is one to watch out for next time out. Eau Royal was bitterly
disappointing and looked extremely uncomfortable on the firm
ground and connections must be hoping for more rain in the next
few weeks, although he doesn’t look to be in the same heart
as last season which saw him win the Group 1 Dubai Stakes.
The Clarendon Stud Banded Stakes over 6 Furlongs:
1. Glastonbury Pop Mr. S Walker
2. Sabez Ms. C Stockham
3. Makhai Mr. P D Rondel
Distances: ¾,
3 6 ran Time: 01:24:40
Winner owned and trained by Mr. A J Jennings. Bred by Mrs. E
Harrington.
Glastonbury Pop (Dedja Des Forges x Operetta) is well bred -
half brother to smart handicappers Deolali and Operatic - but
has always run his race before its started, however under a masterful
ride from Champion Jockey Simon Walker he out sprinted his rivals
in good fashion and came home too strong for Sabez (Mahbuba x
Zalmera), whilst Makhai (Khairouan x Mais) battled on hard to
finish third.
