PAUL SIMMONS OFFICIAL RACE REPORTER

Exeter July 2nd 2005

Track: Good to Firm

The Cole Hay Maiden Stakes – 1 Mile:
1. Danseur Mondain
Mr. P Collington
2. Angel Picamer Mr. S Holdsworth
3. Jaaral Mr. S Walker

Distances: 9, 9 8 ran

Winner owned by HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Trained by Mrs. G Duffield. Bred by M Jean Claude Di Francesco.

Danseur Mondain (Dormane x Djelfee) made mincemeat of his opponents in the maiden as he barely saw a rival as he sauntered home in the 1 Mile maiden, kicking clear 3 furlongs out he won as he liked with 7 lengths to spare at the line and was value for more, he looks to be an incredibly smart prospect. Angel Picamer (Amer x Picea HT) ran a race full of promise and looked much sharper than on her debut, she travelled well and stayed on well in the final furlong to claim second. Jaraal (Tidjani x Edjara Al Garamaze) is going the right way and was another 7 lengths back in third.

The Town & Country Farms Novice Rider Banded Stakes (Bands A, B & C 61-65) 1 Mile 2 Furlongs:
1. Mellway Gold Charm Mr. B Adams
2. French Lieutenant Mr. J Akehurst
3. Floren Miss T Smith

Distances: head, neck 13 ran

Winner owned, trained and bred by Mrs. J Hutchings.

The novice rider race over 1 Mile 2 Furlongs was run at a breakneck pace as the Angela Colledge trained pair Mahboobti and Pronika set off like a pair of scolded cats and cut each others throats up front, this set the race up nicely for decent handicapper and 8/1 shot Mellway Gold Charm (Naresh x Alcina (Lotny)) who was always travelling sweetly in behind and was given a superb ride by budding amateur Barry Adams (currently working for Bill Smith but due to return to Henrietta Knights yard in the winter and on this basis one to watch over the jumps this winter), he judged the pace perfectly to get Mellway Gold Charm up by a head at the line for local owner/trainer/breeder Jackie Hutchings. French Lieutenant (Dedja Des Forges x Sihrea Crystal) lost nothing in defeat in second and was gaining with every stride at the line. Floren (Bengali D’Albret x Florys De Nautiac) also ran well a neck back in third and seems to be improving with every run and his turn looks to be near.

The Midnite Dream Classified Stakes (0-90) 1 Mile 2 Furlongs:
1. Danjani
Mr. P Deymonaz
2. Ashhab Mr. P Collington
3. CS Khan Mr. D Turner

Distances: 3, 7 7 ran

Winner owned and bred by Mr. J Kippen. Trained by Mr. A J Brunton.

Danjani (Tidjani x Russian Dancer (Dantist)) was highly impressive when landing the Midnite Dream Classified stakes over 1 Mile 2 Furlongs under a confident and well judged ride from Pierre Deymonaz who celebrated his 100th winner as a jockey Arab racing. Deymonaz brought the handsome Tidjani colt to lead from 1 ½ furlongs out and let him stroll home to win by a comfortable three lengths. Ashhab (Way To Go x Mangana) was slightly disappointing in second and looked slightly tapped for toe in the final furlong and perhaps his stamina didn’t last. CS Khan (Khairouan x Cikada (Klarnet)) seemed to struggle as the tempo was upped 3 furlongs out and looked a little one paced, he stayed on for third.

The Jebel Ali Racing Club Handicap Stakes (Series Qualifier) (0-75) 1 Mile:
1. Spyros
Mr. D Turner
2. Outta Limit Mr. S Walker
3. Ibn Ajwaad Mr. P Collington

Distances: 4, 1 ½ 9 ran

Winner owned by Mrs. M Calvert & Mrs. G Moore. Trained by Mr. A J Brunton. Bred by Mrs. M Calvert.

The Jebel Ali Racing Club qualifier over a mile saw 5/1 shot Spyros (Saker x Miralda) return to form with vengeance with a power packed display that saw his rivals caught flat footed as he stormed home from 3 furlongs out to win 3 lengths clear at the line for owners Georgie Moore and Monica Calvert, he looks to have come right back to form and can go on from here. Outta Limit (Djebbel x Elite Star Ku) ran with credit in second on her seasonal debut, she was always chasing the winner but stayed on well. Ibn Ajwaad (Arioso x Tecaf Shukran) was held up and came with his run in the final furlong but the winner had gone he was gaining with every stride at the line.

The Penn Challenge Handicap Stakes (Anglo & PBA) 1 Mile:
1. L’Escalou
Mr. S Walker
2. Pride of James Mr. M Smith
3. La Perruche Mr. P D Rondel

Distances: 1 ¼, 10 4 ran

Winner owned and trained by Mr. W Smith. Bred by Mme M Gaillard.

L’Escalou (Big John x L’Escale) predictably won the Anglo/PBA race over a mile but not in the manner expected as Pride of James (Linwood Sweet Excalibur x Harvest Dome) made him pull out all the stops. Pride of James led all the way with L’Escalou stalking ominously in behind. L’Escalou made his move with 1 ½ furlongs to run but Pride of James came it him again and was flying in the final furlong and is the first horse in a while to give L’Escalou a race. La Perruche (L’Estragon x Iron Bird) had no chance with the first two and stayed on for third.
The Larkinglass Farm Handicap Stakes – 6 Furlongs:
1. CS Patriarch Mr. D Turner
2. Djeldor De Bozouls Mr. P Collington
3. Shahngali Mr. P Deymonaz

Distances: 1 ¼, 6 3 ran

Winner owned and bred by Mr M Brunton. Trained by Mr. A J Brunton.

The final race over 6 Furlongs was a mouth-watering spectacle between two Group winners and last seasons improving Champion pure bred CS Patriarch. As expected the 6/4 second favourite CS Patriarch (Makzan x Pokrovka (Desant)) won as he liked and looks to be capable of a step up in class, superbly ridden by David Turner who is having an exceptional season which is reflected in his confident riding, the winner was sent to the front 2 furlongs out and the other two could only chase in his slip stream. Djeldor De Bozouls (Dormane x Udjella) a former Group 1 winning sprinter ran with credit but couldn’t hold a candle to the winner and was flattered by being beaten only 1 ¼ by the winner. Shahngali (Bengali D’Albret x Affecshahn (Derbist)) seemed to struggle to go the pace and whilst he doesn’t seem to lack the ability he seems to be struggling at this grade over sprint trips but did himself no favours after being left at the start and is worth another chance.
