A decent
Derby run at a blistering pace with Djabra’il the French
raider taking them along at a decent clip after jumping out smartly
from the stalls, with Shafaq and Nickel Al Maury prominent and
Makfoul Du Breil covered up. At the three furlong marker Makfoul
Du Breil the raider from the Netherlands took up the running and
started to pull clear of Nickel Al Maury and Dormah De Brugere,
but he was made to knuckle down in the final furlong and scored
by a comfortable length at the line. This fine effort from Makfoul
Du Breuil (Tidjani X Basta) was impressive and he is to be feared
should he line up in the Dubai Stakes on the 18th. Nickel Al Maury
(Dormane X Nausicaa Al Maury) aquitted himself well in second
and battled on well on the final furlong but looks held by the
winner on this running and was perhaps a shade disappointing.
Dormah De Brugere (Dormane X Ballade Folle) did little to help
her cause by breaking slowly from the stalls, however, she made
up ground and went second two furlongs out before being tapped
for toe in the final furlong, this was another solid effort from
this game filly and she has clearly trained on and has every chance
of landing her first Group 1 win in the Hatta Mares Stakes on
Dubai Day.
