A shock
result in the six furlongs Group 2 Emirates Arabian International
Stakes saw 6/4 favourite Djeldor De Bozouls overturned by 7/2
shot Djoumis De Leyre (Tidjani X Zina De Perron). The favourite
blazed a trail from the start and was still traveling like a winner
from the three furlong marker with Shahngali (Bengali D’Albret
X Affecshahn (Derbist)) snapping at his heals, but it was former
Zaabeel Stakes winner Djoumis De Leyre who was stalking menacingly;
and when Shahngali took the lead from Djeldor two furlongs out
it was Djoumis De Leyre who was still going best and quickened
up smartly in the final furlong to win with a bit in hand. Shahngali
ran another game performance one and a quarter lengths back in
second, whilst Djeldor De Bozouls (Dormane X Udjella) was the
same distance back in third and his strangle hold on the Group
sprint races in the UK seems to have ended. The prospect of these
three turning up in the Zaabeel Stakes on Dubai Day should prove
to be a mouth watering spectacle.
