Lingfield 14th August

Track: Standard

The Cortaflex Maiden Stakes – 1 Mile:
1. Lamasat Mr. P Collington
2. Maksun Angel Mr. S A Walker
3. Spyros Mr. M Sheridan

Distances: 4, 3 8 ran Time: 01:51:00

Winner owned by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin R Al Maktoum. Trained by Mrs. G Duffield. Bred by Shadwell Estate Company Ltd.

Lamasat (Bengali D’Albret X Komet) won the maiden in fine style, racing prominently throughout and gradually moving to lead from two furlongs out and quickened clear to lead in the final furlong to pull away from the second by five lengths at the line. Maksun Angel (Makzan X Island Sunrise) ran another good race, he traveled well and made steady headway in the final furlongs to just get second. Spyros (Saker X Miralda) helped force the pace and was always chasing the winner and just lost second in the dieing strides.

The Town & Country Farms Novice Riders Handicap Stakes (0-65) 2 Miles:
1. Allahmes
Miss A Wallace
2. Notid Mrs. C Stockham
3. Anganate Safinat Ms. N Wynn

Distances: 1 ½, 1 ¼ 11 ran Time: 04:02:30

Winner owned and trained by Mr. W Hill. Bred by Mrs. S J Turner.

Anna Wallace rode a confident race on Allahmes (Azahmes X Numenor Nim Alatari) in the Town & Country Farms Novice riders stakes to win. Messenger Man jumped off in front and set decent pace with Allahmes settled nicely in second, Wallace produced him to take up the lead four furlongs out and he ran on strongly from the bend but was all out to hold off the challenge of Notid (Tidjani X Sherrie Noreen). The second was prominent throughout and seemed to relish this step up in trip, he was showing his first signs of form and ran on strongly. The third Anaganate Safinat (Manganate X Astree) has won on the all weather and likes the surface but needs a stiff test of stamina and is well weighted at present.

The Jebel Ali Racing Club (Series Qualifier) Handicap Stakes (0-80) 6 Furlongs:
1. Shafaq
Mr. P Collington
2. The Vertuous Crusader Mr. D I Turner
3. Olivphaya Mr. M Sheridan

Distances: head, 1 ¼ 10 ran Time: 01:22:30

Winner owned by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin R Al Maktoum. Trained By Mrs. G Duffield. Bred by Shadwell Estate Company Ltd.

The Vertuous Crusader was heavily backed and was prominent throughout behind pace setter Olivphaya, he went to the front two furlongs out and seemed to idle a little in front and perhaps got there too soon; he was caught in the shadow of the post by Shafaq (Izentespeshal X Bisbille) who just got up. The winner won her maiden nicely at Hereford before disappointing in the Derby, she seems speedy and showed real determination to get up on the line. The Vertuous Crusader (Vert Olive X Crusader’s Spirit (Sky Crusader)) ran another game race and was unlucky not to win, he seems to be progressing. Olivphaya (Vert Olive X Phaya) is as game as they come, she set a decent pace and was only a length back in third and deserves to win soon.

The Al Jabal “Guiness World Record Holder” Memorial Handicap Stakes (0-45) 5 Furlongs:
1. Karaviva
Mr. S Holdsworth
2. Island Rover Miss. S E Morris
3. Drongo Mr. B J Boulton

Distances: ¾, 3 10 ran Time: 01:10:70

Winner owned and bred by Miss. J Bethell. Trained by Miss. J Stevens.

A surprise result in the five furlong handicap as Karaviva (Normativ X Sunlea Kaprina) heavily backed down from 20/1 to 6/1 opened her account in game fashion under a stylish ride from Sam Holdsworth. Well placed throughout she was produced in the final furlong with a strong run to collar long time leader Island Rover by three quarters of a length at the line. It was owner and breeder Julie Bethell’s first ever winner and trainer Jane Stevens first winner since 1997, from the manner of the win she looks capable of landing a few more at this level. Island Rover (Khamil X Columbine) led from the start and set a decent pace, he ran on strongly at the end and was just beaten at the line. Drongo (Dhruv X Difayah) was prominent throughout and ran well in defeat, he is well handicapped at present.

The www.lingfield-racecourse.co.uk Handicap Stakes (0-125) 1 Mile:
1. Call Me Risky
Miss. G M Kelleway
2. Pride of James Miss. E J Jones
3. Faer Soar Mr. S Walker

Distances: ¾, 2 ½ 5 ran Time: 01:45:60

Winner owned and trained by Dr. R Cubberley. Bred by Miss. S Kelleway.

Faer Soar led from the start in the Anglo race and set a good pace but lost the lead in the final two furlongs as Call Me Risky (Risk Me X Call My Name) set sail for home with Pride of James breathing down his neck. Call Me Risky was always going and quickened up nicely under Gay Kelleway to win by a rather cheeky half length to give owner and trainer Rachel Cubberley her first winner. Pride Of James (Linwood Sweet Excalibur X Harvest Dome) ran another good race, held up throughout he was produced in the final furlong with an effort but couldn’t reach the winner. Faer Soar (Out of Hand X Easter Panic) was a shade disappointing back in third and perhaps didn’t like the surface.

The Clarendon Stud Classified Stakes (0-95) 1 Mile:
1. Balquees
Mr. S Walker
2. CS Patriarch Mr. D Turner
3. Miss Moncrieff Mr. P Collington

Distances: 2 ½, ¾ 5 ran Time: 01:51:20

Winner owned and bred by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin R Al Maktoum. Trained by Mr. W Smith.

Balquees (Pasem Lotois X Victoria’s Secrett) picked up the winning thread again with a confident display in the one mile. She was held up and produced from the bend and ran on strongly in the last furlong, she looks to be a true miler. CS Patriarch (Makzan X Pokrovka (Desant)) jumped off in front to make the running with Miss Moncrieff settled in behind, he stayed on for second but was two and half lengths back and held. Miss Moncrieff (Makzan X Zeinah (Samsheik) stayed on for third and seemed to struggle from the bend but was running on strongly at the end and perhaps want further.

The Island Sunrise Stakes 1 Mile 2 Furlongs:
1. Have Fun
Mr. P Collington
2. Laskem Miss E-J Jones
3. Super Man Al Maury Mr. S Holdsworth

Distances: ¾, 6 4 ran Time: 02:23:00

Winner owned by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin R Al Maktoum. Trained by Mrs. G Duffield. Bred by Chantilly Bloodstock.

The seventh race proved to be dramatic when one time Derby hope Bengal Lotois jumped off in front and hadn’t even got to the first furlong marker before he swerved across the track and dumped Simon Walker and then proceeded to gallop down the track in the wrong direction. Laskem led with Have Fun (WF High Voltage X Gabie De Carrere) settled behind and Super Man Al Maury, as Laskem upped the pace Super Man Al Maury seemed out paced. As Laskem (Dormane X Kemia) kicked for home Have Fun was unleashed by Phil Collington and although he ran on to win by three quarters of a length, he seemed reluctant to go on and whilst talented seems quirky. Laskem ran another sound race but was no match for the winner and Super Man Al Maury (Way To Go X Sylphide Al Maury) was a little disappointing in third
