I am going to uk next month for a few days and have decided that I am going to check out the renault horse boxes, a friend of mine is interested in my car, so will check out the specs on the small 2 horse boxes while I am there. Must admit I have been very impressed by the ones I have seen already, am going to look on ebay to get a rough idea of what they are going for Has anyone on here got one and if so what do you think of them |

I was chatting to someone who had one and she said it was absolutely fabulous. and you can pick them up for a reasonable price in the UK, we have some money due to us which we are waiting on and had it earmarked for something else, but not getting it now, so will put that towards one, I am quite excited about it, I think its better than a trailer, well for me anyway |

My husband is a brilliant mechanic too so he would be able to maintain it eay enough, I must admit I am not happy towing and therefore this is the best option for me, just wondered if anyone had advice as to what to look out for when looking at these |

Gerri i will be very jealous if you get one!! They are on my lottery win wish list, we have a few customers who turn up at the shop to buy feed and i always go look at them in the carpark--what a saddo i am but if i stare at it hard enough surely i will have one one day. Keep us posted and post a pic to satisfy my lust |

| Hi Gerri i have a Renault Master horsebox its the 2nd one ive owned, they are fab little boxes cheap to run and insure in fact its cheaper to run than my car. All my horses travel really well in it and the foals go in from a few days old as my big fields are away from home. I am always on my own and can load 2 horses alone i wouldnt swap it for a big one. When we had it built they put me a little sink, fridge and 2 ring hob in so if i want i can make a cuppa. Good luck with your search or if you need any help let me know. |

| Your welcome Gerri, just be careful buying one as the first one we looked at had the mileage changed luckily for us my other half sells cars so we can check the mileage and finance on them. Also decide about the top ramp doors we have 2 half doors but they do rattle the other option is the up and over door.Any probs just ask me, here to help you if you need it. |

| I don't have personal experience of these but I was speaking with a transporter who had bought one and he claimed that he could only carry one horse in it even though it was partitioned for two. If he carried two he was overweight. Do check before you buy. |

| I don't have a renault (it's on our dream list) but we do have a purpose built talbot conversion and it had been marvellous - so much easier than the trailer tow car option. But do be wary of dodgy small outfit conversions which are not man enough for the job. |

A word of warning about Renauly Master vans: Both instances occured over the last 6 months, my father-in-law has a 55 plate works van and our farrier has a 08 plate master, both developed a hydraulics leak in the clutch slave cylinder which Renault has placed INSIDE the clutch bellhousing. They both blew without warning and both vehicles had to be recovered. Due to the fact that the leak was inside the clutch bellhousing, the clutch was contaminated, hence the clutch had to be replaced at the same time. A £1000 job and days off work! Bad design! |

OMG!!!!! can any of you suggest any other similar lorries to look at? I am just a liccle woman and only take two horses out at a time, but would like to do things again and want to be able to cope on my own, so only want a little lorry, my Arabs are not huge either so only need something to take two 15.2 horses any suggestions at what else I could look at and compare at the same time? |

| I've had a Renault Master for the last two years and it's a fab little lorry. I don't use it very often though so have just sold my share to the friend I bought it with. We haven't had any problems, maybe the clutch thing is in the newer models? I'd definately recommend one. I had the bigger squarer version rather than the one that still looks like a little van if you know what I mean. A friend has that version and again has had no problems with it but personally I wouldn't want to travel two horses in it but it's been fine for her two ponies. |

I have a Renault Master and love it - my horses have always not been brillaint travellers but in the Renault they load themselves! It is also a really easy box to manouver plus it doesn't feel much wider than a car to drive.

I have a renault master and its FANTASTIC!
My boys travel brilliantly in it and as far as mechanical problems go.. my mechanic did say your better off with a slightly older chassis ( pre 98) as the gearbox etc is better ( mine is on a 95 plate professionally converted in 2008 but had a new engine 50k miles back)
I wouldnt have anything else, hate trailers and cant imagine spending all the money on plating and diesel that you have with a big lorry again!!

A lady I do some work for has a Trophy Twin on an Iveco chassis and I want one!! She loves it and has had no probs. Personally I don't like the top door design on the Renualts. I think it makes it look like a 'mouth' that you are trying to get a horse to go into |

| Flosskins, the manufacturer should give you the unladen weight of the box then if you know the weight of your horses and ALL the kit and water you are likely to carry you can do the sums. When you do the sums make sure you include everything. |

Trophy twin on an Iveco chassis would be a 5.5t chassis, so you would need 7.5t licence to drive one... Personally I would rather go for a trophy twin as you are less likely to be overweight... but sometimes licences do not allow. T x |

I had to take Arabi to the vets on about 5 occasions recently and we used a guy who had one, Arabi loaded straight away when previously it has taken a bit of persuasion to get him on trailers and larger horseboxes in the past, he travelled really well in it, I think they are brilliant I would love to have one if I had the money that is what I would buy. Good luck Gerri. |
