We took Andrew (Aakrarbat) and Norman (Waywood Storm). They started far too full of themselves but we crewed about 6 kms from home and they were having a great ride. Then about 2km from home and at the 27th gate Hannah parted company from Norman and has a broken wrist that has to be plated tomorrow. Everyone was really helpfull, especially the gentleman that lead Norman back to the venue, and Andrew got a Grade 2 although no compensation for Hannah who was so brave when she must have been in a lot of pain. Photo below is about 5km before the accident.

Oh dear...she had a spot of trouble with Norman at Ashdown too didn't she? I hope she will be feeling better after they "plate her wrist". Perhaps "Wayward" is a better name!
Best wishes for a full recovery Hannah

I do hope Hannah is recovering well - that sounds very nasty, and what a shame that she got so close to the finish and didn't make it. Hopefully next season 'Wayward' will be a little less gung ho!

Well despite my fears as to whether we would a) make it there in the first place (long story about wasp stings, allergic reactions for both Lily and I) b) she would make it round and c) make it through the final vetting (Got vetted out at the last ride we actually made it to) we did it! We set off and it got wetter and wetter and colder, Lily didn't like the low cloud - or the walkers that appeared through the mist, and obviously thought I was quite mad taking her over the top of the Downs in such conditions. We didn't see anyone else at all for at least three quarters of the route, and she got a bit fed up. I was also concerned about her fitness because what with one thing and another she hasn't been exercised nearly as much as she should have been, and it is quite a tough hilly course. She was excellent with all the gates (they've been a problem in the past, but she is finally starting to understand the concept), and we got home safely. We vetted slightly early and she finished on a heart rate of 48 and we got a grade 3 and I was so very pleased with her. That's the last ride of the season since I shall be away working for Windsor, so it was lovely to end a very frustrating season on a good note.

Hoping that both you and Laddie are both fully recovered from your nasty fall Sandy and on course for Windsor

Have to make a correction (blame the lack of reading glasses when looking at the mastercard!). Andrew did not get a Grade 2 , he was in Class 2 and he got a Completion. Hannah was so near the end she asked Brian and the medic if they could just straighten the wrist up so she could finish the ride! Norman's biggest problem is his size, small even for an Arab at 13.2hh. He could not see over the gates at DD, which is why Andrew did them all up until then, as it made it hard for the Hannah to get close and open them. Also means there is less to sit on if he does take off and his lack of rein length means he is also harder to stop. Andrew, on the other hand, has the opposite problem - we wish he would STOP growing!

As a friend asked, is Andrew still growing or is Brian shrinking?

Great news about Hannah - hope she's back in the saddle soonest, Andrew looks huge in the photos , I firmly declare that Lily is 15.3hh, she won't stand for the stick to measure her properly, she is definitely bigger than 15.2hh, and I refuse to believe she is 16 hh ...
