Not sure if this has been done before but there is nothing better than home tried methods of making winter easier.
I put glycerine in the water buckets, troughs to provent it from freezing about a tablespoon in a trough but it's not exact and doesn't put off livestock from drinking it as it has no taste.
Any more tried and tested things ? I'm sure a few of you must have some.

Buy leather gloves with lambswool inside them. Have kept my fingers warm for the past 2 years. Or, buy a cheapo woolly pair from primark and them put a pair of riding gloves over the top. Fingers are warm but its not too bulky you can still hold onto reins properly. |

Brilliant tip Doug, thanks. Trouble is I just told my daughter about it within earshot of her OH (who has had a bit of expense with the horses recently) and he shouted to us 'that will be nitro glycerine I hope' . Think he was only joking but will keep an eye on him for a bit. |

So make sure your water proofs and wellies don't leak and get warm clothing ready. Make sure you have two wellies that are not for the same foot Mad Alice!! |

Sealskinz gloves, Mrs Vlacq introduced these woolen wonders to me and they are fab WATERPROOF merino wool half the battle of not getting cold is staying dry, they are ACE don't need to take em off to do fiddly buckles and stuff!! they even do socks!! so your beloved leaking wellies can last a bit longer |
