I have used it with great success to an underweight horse I had. I bought it from an agricultural feed merchant and it cost me about £5 for a 30kg sack! It lasted ages, as I only used a mugful at a time with the horse.

Word of warning though......in some horses it can make them hyper if they are predisposed to being that way!

Thanks thats that ive been told a mug ful between two feeds. My boy is in great condition ive just been advised to feed it for that extra condition. I will see how it goes with the possibility of making him fizz, as i certainly dont require fizz haha xxxx

You could well be right Debs!!

I found that it put the most fantastic sheen on the coat and the horse was carrying plenty weight at the end of it.....however there are other feed products that do the same and on hindsight, it could well have been the other things that I was feeding the produced the weight!!

My grey is really shinny just now.....never seen him look so good and I'm feeding him Barley Nuggets with linseed in them, so I suspect that is what is making hims looks so good. May be worth a try using them, or indeed just buying linseed or soya oil and adding a small amount of that in for condition and shine?

Years ago I was advised, by a top judge, to feed my lovely but lazy show horse soya to give her a bit more sparkle. I ended up with a b...dy-minded and stubborn horse who fought against doing anything she was asked. I think that had she been a more active type she would have become a really stroppy, fizzy mare.

I couldn't recomend it.

Ive never used soya oil/meal but Ive found a big dollop of corn oil has been the best in keeping weight/condition on my 23yo tb mare who is HORRENDOUS to keep weight on. She is very highly strung and spooky and shes been fine on it.

I'd be cautious about feeding for "extra" condidtion , you say your boy is in great condition already, theres nothing worse then a FAT show horse!

its not really for extra condition im feeding it, its just to help maintain his condition, as he is rising three in june, and imo i think he is of perfect weight for his age, so if i notice its causing him to gain unecessary weight then i would eliminate it from his feeds. Will see how he goes, the person who advised me to try it is very experienced so im giving it a go. Thanks for all your advise eveyone
