This winter I thinking of going onto straights to try and keep the costs down as theres no vat and iv heard vat is going to go up to 20% for the pre mixed stuff.
Was just wondering to anyone who feeds straights what do you feed and what can you put together to in effect make your own course mix?

I've had good results feeding straights. I used to make my own mix and it can keep the costs down quite a bit. You just have to make sure you add in the vitamins.

There is no VAT on any of the mixes where i work, and that includes all the Banded feeds, but hear that most are putting up prices in October

I feed straights - rolled oats, middlings etc. They do amazingly well on it and the oats make their coats and mane/tail so shiny and lustrous. I find the oats do not heat them up either.

Is a good way to keep costs down but just make sure there is a broad vitamin and mineral and if feeding oats to youngstock we would feed sugar beet along with it and possibly even calvite to make sure they have the calcuim for their growing bones. But i feed min blue chip with a scoop of chaff and scoop of cool mix and looking really well on it
