Of course I mentioned to a friend that Rabbit only likes straight bars and the ported mouth snaffle, which is not dressage legal (although I guess the chances of them checking in his mouth are 0) and she suggested Hippus bits as her mare is similar (hated Mylers, any joint etc etc) but loved these bits - she's got a couple I can 'try before I buy' as it would be an expensive mistake!
I'm getting him what he's been used to (Magic Snaffle) so he can settle in without too much change, but just thought for the furture x |

Not come across Hippus bits before. I attended a Myler clinic with Dale Myler - very nice man - he is very knowledgable and I think the clinic is still "on the road" - may help. |

Thanks guisburnfeefee - he doesn't like Mylers (they were my first thought)! I am going to keep him in what he's got for the time being anyway but I will need to find a dressage legal alternative sooner rather than later |

Ohh!!! how can that be justified!!! an example of us all overpaying for things, I bought some caged stirrups over £65..here in France same £15.00 I was not amused.

My friend rides her two arabs in Hippus bits and finds them very gentle on the mouth. I tried our mare with one of Becci's and it worked a treat, so we are in the process of ordering them too for our lot. They are quite pricey but as Becci states we pay a fortune for good fitted saddles then stick a cheap bit in their mouth (not everyone of course but it happens). They can not be bought in this country either but do come in the mail so no tax.
Becci can fill you in more, but is away for a few days!! Lucky Madam.

Pasha my mare wasn't keen on the Myler either - but went well in a sprenger but they are expensive - also you might have a look at the neueschule website and if you give them a ring they are very helpful.
Keren the Myler clinics were adverised in the nag and dog a few weeks ago - but if you go to the Belstane website they are on there too.

Thanks Guys... yes they are expensive but I want to make my horses as comfortable as possible so I think it's worth it!!
Pasha is ridden in either a Sprenger Tournado (loose ring snaffle) or a Neue Schule Veribend (I think - it's the hanging cheek one with the lozenge in the middle).... he LOVES both of them and happily dribbles away
I WENT AHEAD AND GOT ONE It arrived this morning and it looks lush!! It's gently curved and has a join but only to curve in line with the mouth (it's a smooth flat join and doesn't exert constant tongue pressure like normal jointed bits).... if Shesky doesn't like it I am going to keep it as I think Pasha will love it! I got the 5B10 - it's the same size as Pasha's bits (5.25 inch) and thinner than both the Neue Schule and Sprenger, but oh so smooth - tried it on my arm like they do with the Myler... will let you know how I get on
Only problem is they don't do a Pelham version and both the boys mouths are too tiny for double bits.... I wonder if they would make me one? Worth a try if they like it! |

Hi Yes I have two of these- the Hippus 1000 and the Hippus 1000L the Hippus 1000L being the same bit but the larger of the two. They are fantastic I too was recommended these bits by a very knowledgeable friend of mine, I did do a quite a lot of research first as they are quite pricey I went ahead and got one direct from Switzerland and have since bought another, the design is unique and widely used in Switzerland, France, Germany, America, Australia and Ireland, probably missed a few country's! Its a shame they are not marketed in the UK and consequently not many people even know about them I also think the Brits are quite traditional and like to stick to what they know! Pasha do let us know how you get on with your 5B10. Becci |
