hi, does anyone have any advise for my friend, Three years ago she took her mare to be covered the deal was nffr the mare got in foal but unfortunately she was in foal with twins, the vets nipped one but she ended up loosing both, she took the mare back to be covered but she didn't come back into season, the stallion owner suggested she bring the mare back the next spring,in the mean time the mare had to be put down (long story).stallion owner agreed for a replacement mare to be covered that would have been last spring, replacement got colic and died just before going to the stallion, now the stallions been sold and my friend has no foal and by the look of it no return does any one know where she stands legally

Persnally I think the stallion owner has bent over backwards to help the mare owner. The mare was actually in foal in the first instance and the owner chose to have veterinary intervention re the twins which maybe ended up in the loss of both. Not the stallion owners fault! The stallion owner even agreed to a replacement being covered, very good of them IMO. I think your friend should just let the matter drop and buy a weanling if they are so set on having foal.

umm tricky, but as joto has says l do think the stallion owner has done there best to accommodate your friend, shame the stallion has been sold but l doubt if the new owners will want to honour this debt...indeed why should they...
usually nffr means that....payment is normally made when the mare is scanned in foal
you might have a case if it was no live foal no fee/or free return but l think your friend might have to write this one off

Depends on the agreement between the 2 owners but I wouldn't expect any monies or coverings - people think stallion owners are raking it in - trust me they're not (unless they have a v expensive boy by AI)!! Put it doen to experience and start again

Very disappointing especially if a very large fee was involved, but as others have said, the mare actually got in foal. The service and return was for that mare, any contract was legally 'frustrated' by the death of first mare, and the stallion owner has been much more accommodating than most. There is a limit to how far they should be expected to keep on offering a return service as this was a good will gesture as the mare was in foal.

I agree with the majority.

I'm just for your friend, she really sounds as though she has had a run of bad luck
