I would like to say what a magnificient sire this horse has proved to be....His influence through the bloodlines has bred not only top winners in hand but also top ridden horses...For example the Towerlands Ridden Champion Adawy and the Reserve Za Karis Ibn Azal are both out of Crusader daughters. The great Ronaldo, who was Reserve Senior Male at Towerlands, correct me if I'm wrong is also out of a Crusader Daughter. I am just pin pointing these horses from the weekend , but there are and have been many many more, successful horses descending from this fabulous arab Stallion...He was one horse I would have loved to have ridden, I bet he was amazing.... Thank you to the Maxwell Family for bringing him to the UK and Thank you to Crusader although no longer with us in body his legacy still lives on....

Yes Crusader sure did have a big influence at Towerlands. Thank you to the Maxwells for having the insight to bring him to the UK! (not the first time they have done something like that, El Shaklan springs to mind!) |

I have a 6 year old great grand-daughter and a yearling grand-daughter of Crusader, through his wonderful son Mostafa who I understand done quite well showing as a youngster.
The Maxwell Family certainly knew what they were doing when they got Crusader. If only I knew a tiny amount of what they know about Arabian pedigrees!!
Crusader certainly has sired some fantastic son's and daughters, wonder if Emma or her parents had a favourite? :)

The lovely Madaba is a Crusader son and my stallion, Spanish Crusader, is also a crusader son. Maarauder, sold by Jo Anderson to the States, is also a very good son of crusader and I know there are lots of others around.

I had a Crusader son out of a Ghassan Albadeia daughter. Beautiful horse, but way too highly strung for me as an in-experienced novice arab owner back in 2001, and unfortunately was returned to Lodge Farm. If i knew then what i know now, i would have recognized that the straights just need a lot more time to mature (he was 6) and are far more intelligent than alot of other breeds! Often wonder what happened to him, as i know he raced prior to my interest in him. Was lucky enough to meet Crusader at close quarters whilst hunting for my first arabian, and can honestly say was awestruck by the beauty and presence of that marvellous horse

Thanks Fiona for pointing that one out.
Here are some old phots of Crusader doing what he was good at !
1993 in the winners circle Duinigt in Holland and going down to the start
1994 in Paris where he was Reserve World Champion Stallion (to Kubinec the sire of Ronaldo)
Moving lesser mortals around the farm (everyone was a lesser mortal to Crusader !)
With the Sire Produce Saddle from Malvern when he was also leading sire of show
and winning the ridden class in Abu Dhabi - he was Champion Stallion the same day
and here's one of him just looking imperious in a saddle !

How could I have forgotten Za Zu, Helen, as I have a yearling SE daughter of his who I am VERY pleased with. I think she is going to be rather special in a few years. I was in a rush and about to go out to do the horses so just quickly mentioned a couple.
I am sure his stock will be highly prized in years to come. thank you for the lovely photos of him, Emma, so glad I used him; wish I had a few more by him.

Love that last picture of Emma's. He was so upstanding in his stance and I do love the stallions that have that sort of pride and attitude.
Best regards,

Hi Barbara, Im glad you're pleased with the filly a photo of her would be appreciated when you get time? The full sister is a late developer. Za Zu babies do take a while to come into their own (typcial SEs) but when they do they are very special. Something to treasure. |

I just love Crusader offspring, but I particularly fell in love with Hanan when she won her class at Malvern as a yearling - she was most definitely a cut above the rest, simply beautiful I still have a video of that class.

I saw a picture being painted of various Lodge Farm mares, one of which was Hanan. I asked to see the original photo, and I have to say she was spectacular. Would love to have seen her in the flesh.

There was a Crusader son---a gelding called Salladin---for sale too cheap recently. I knew him when he was in Scotland and have been appalled to see him changing hands frequently since he was sold down south. Does anyone know what has happened to him? |

Yet another Crusader descendent to do well at Towerlands was the second placed Ridden mare "Destiny's Diamond".....she is six years old and is the only foal of Mumbai who is by Crusader out of Mazourka by Maleik El Kheil. Mumbai herself was bred by the Maxwell family. |

During 2004/5 we had Aqtal who was one of Crusader's offspring in race training, in fact he won at Hereford in 2005 after being placed in his first two starts that season. His picture is on our web site www.bxps.com

I loved Crusader too, I owned a daughter of his for a while called BAS Jameela she was out of an Ansata Nile Pasha daughter, I bred a nice colt out of her by Psyche's Image R, so the foal was double Crusader and I am told he is now a very very tall gelding! . I also used the Crusader son Mostafa, and bred a lovely filly called SA Sefra, who has now herself bred a couple of show winners for her owners.
My fave Crusader offspring had to be Hanan though, wow she was jaw dropping!!! And Ashiqa of course too |

Please also remember Amira Kastanah another Crusader daughter out of a Maleik El Kheil mare, who was crowned B.N.Ch Junior Female as a yearling in 1998. |
