me telling about the Arabian mare I used to ride as a child? in 1957 I thought as I had forgotten her name I would never be able to trace her pedigree, well low and behold I found the friend I used to ride with back then and she has pictures of her and me riding the mare ! ( I think this is me, as my friend is much darker) ! now , I am so near to finding the mare's true name but I need some help, my friend remembers her name as "Crete" and wrote it on the back of the picture, but I have looked on all breed and not found her there, she was a pure bred, does anyone have a clue where I might find her? of course she is long gone by now, but she may have had foals and could be in someone's pedigree? the thing is she was almost certainly Crabbet as we lived in Old Coulsdon , not far from Crabbet park, and it was the same year that Lady wentworth died, so maybe the mare was sold at the dispersal of Crabbet. edited to correct some spelling this is me the same year

No she was a bay, but thanks anyway. I had always dreamed of finding her pedigree, we asked the owners her name and they told us she was a pure bred arabian, they also told us her name, but my memory didnt stretch that far back for names, however Lynn the other girl, wrote it down so she remembered, I have tried other ways to spell it but still its not coming up on all breed, we are talking 51 years ago though. maybe she was never officially registered . |

What lovely photos to have found - best of luck in tracing her lines although bit of a needle in a haystack. Still, it might ring a bell with someone, you just never know ! |

Hi
You could try and contact Jane Pointer of the Cranham Stud.
She is extremely knowledgable and may remember the mare.
Good luck |

Oh Mandy, thanks do you think this could really be her, I hope so, that would make her a 10 year old, about right, did you find her on all breed? I wonder if there are any pictures of her, I shall have to delve a bit now, so greatful for your search |

Lynda, she is now on all breed, I found her in the stud book by trying different spellings, it would be lovely if it is her, she was imported, bred by Dr Houtappel and then owned by a Mr Glass in Somerset, then the trail goes cold, I'm still working on it,

Dr Houtappel moved his whole stud to sussex before going to the us in partnership with marion cooke, who owned starguard and bred a lot of very good champions, also owned ghademmes [sp] in parnership with the maxwells last l heard marion cooke is around the norfolk area, but has very good stud records she might have more info...will try and dig out an address but it could be years out of date...

Just seen this thread, how lovely to have found such a beautiful descendant!
I love those first black and white pictures Lynda, just so remind me of my own childhood hanging around horses every minute of the day !
