Anyone heard of this?It came from an extremely knowledgable source so I'm inclined to believe it.The story goes that if the whorl is below the eyes the steadier the nature of the horse. The higher the whorl the more sensitive or highly strung but also the more intelligent-and in the right hands-more trainable the horse.

Amgio my Saddlebred has about 10 whorls on his head (& many more on his body!) & he is a REAL character!! I brred a Morgan cross who had three whorls on his forehead & he was a strange, difficult boy! |

There was no mention of multiple or body whorls.I think what's referred to is the central forehead one that all horses have.Where is it on your Morgan x Judith? |

I have heard this too and it does seem to have some bearing although probably fluke lol!! We have one character who is a right ole jekyll and hyde but her whorl is between her eyes. When we lifted her forelock she has 2, one between her eyes and one hidden beneath her forelock - which would account for her mood swings lol! |

ive never heard this before but i like whorls - purely because if your horse was stolen there is no way they can be discuised.Blazes can be painted on ,socks painted on, greys turned to chestnut etc etc but no way can you change whorls !!! |

This would makes sense with my two - Gretel the Fjord has a huge whorl in the centre of her head and is very steady but very strongwilled. On the other hand Dulciya has one much higher up and is very intelligent, emotional but very trainable in the right hands and if handled quietly... so maybe there is some truth in it. I will go and check out the other horses at the yard! |

we have always superstitious about face whorls. Low and large is a good thing and a double one VERY lucky... |

Linda Tellington-Jones has a book which has what all the swirls mean and how to read the head. It's called Getting in Touch with Horses, How to Assess and Influence Personality, Potential and Performance. |

There is another book 'Animals in Translation' by Temple Grandin. She is Autistic and is able to decode animal behaviours. This is where I first heard of it. This book is such a good read too I recommend it.

Sensitive, highly strung and intelligent turns into 'crazy' pretty quick if it's mishandled-that's how Arabians got their bad reputation in the first place. My old ID cross has a high whorl and she's still a firework at 25.She was savagely abused before l got her.Someone thought it a bright idea to whip her on the back of the head while riding her.As a result of this she was great for teaching me to keep my hands down and elbows in.A glimpse of anything she thought might be moving towards the back of her head and she had a buck that could send me to Donegal |

Mar has one in the middle of her star, right between her eyes, which would fit with this. She's generally an easy-going sorta girl but has tendencies to be strong-willed and opinionated. Much like her owner! |

How interesting, I've never heard anything about it before. I can't wait to get home and check tonight but I suspect if there is anything in this then Harvey's will be way up around his ears somewhere!! |
