My girl's sire Rabidan (Darjeel x Rabiha)was bred by Lady May Abel Smith. Unfortuantly I know nothing of him, except my mare is supposed to look like him....and that by now he would be 36, if he was still alive. He might also have been owned by an Anita Chaney at some point :)

Hi The late Linda Hannaford bought Shalkar from Lady May - he will be about 23ish now. I backed, trained him in Showjumping, dressage and produced him for the show ring, inhand and under saddle. He was a multiple champion in hand and champion under saddle. He was performance graded and aprt of the Arabian Knights Team Chasers - the only ever team of purebred arabinas team chasing in the UK. I do have quite a nice picture of him at the International - but I am no good at uploading it on here! Shalkar was also 2nd or 3rd on a number of occasions in the AHS overall performance horse of the year - often behind our samad - who I also produced!Shalkar competed up to Elementary in dressage too. He threw very big foals with his very nice temperament. He is now owned by Cheryl Logan.

Cheryl passed away a couple of weeks ago, and I beleive Shalkar was pts before that, due to him being ill.
Jan Clarke will know for sure.
Jan and Eric, are very upset at the minute, due to losing Cheryl.

Jan has Khiro at home now. I saw him a few weeks ago and he has settled in well, and looks really good for his age.

Sorry to be the bearer of sad news on both counts.

If you go to the endurance forum here, and click on Cherly Logan, theres a very lovely photo of Cheryl and Shalkar there.

It would be lovely to know where some these horses went as I used to visit Barton Lodge frequently and met them all including Darjeel just before he departed this earth. What a lovely boy!!

They had the most wonderful set up in the winter. 4 mares would be all together in a small yard with straw bedding and shelter. In the spring they would go in with the tractor and just clear them out(the yards that is).I have alsway wished I could have the same set but couldnbever afford it.

I also me Bayazar(spelling). George White was a wonderful mentor. I learnt such a lot from him. I used to go with my friend Sue Lea, who had and still has stock by Darjeel. The old mare, Jaala Sbeyel, was probably the epitome of an arab mare. She produced some wonderful foals by Ahmoun and Donax. She also had a lovely boy by Abu Dhahi. There is one mare left, Rif, a liver chestnut by Darjeel out of Shamnar Kesia(Bin Rimini x Roxina Gold). Sorry to go on but I think that these bloodlines need precerving. Rif also has daughter by Ahmoun. She is so lovely. I would try topersuade Sue to let me take her on if I had the space and money.

I love the Darjeel line and the stamp that comes through generation after generation. Lovely looking horses that are not too extreme. I have a 15 year old 7/8ths part-bred (the other bit is Welsh cob) by Dorian (Darjeel/Orilla)and she is the most wonderful person with such a kind and generous nature. I loaned her some years ago and she came home traumatised. I still don't know what happened to her, but she is a tough lady and something seriously upset her. It took a long time for her to trust strangers again, but thankfully is now back to her old self. I also have a 10 year old pure bred by Dorian out of a Russian English mare (Charmer/Glass Slipper). She is a very complex character and very competitive like her Father. She improves as the years go by both in looks and character and is fairly sensitive, but again a lovely person. She is very definitely of the Darjeel stamp. Both these Dorian girls are very very tough physically. They were both absolutely horrid as two year olds and we had many tantrums. I agree the lines need preserving.

Interestingly Dargee/Darjeel feature strongly in many successful endurance pedigrees and are especially strong performers crossed with the Blue Domino line.

if you go onto the al discussion forum under 'Shayzar' I have posted some pics of our Barton Lodge mares and some of their offspring - bear in mine -the pics are taken in the field, unbrushed and natural, i suppose just as they were at Barton lodge, when we saw them.
we visited George at his home in Norton, near Malton, North Yorkshire, to take a video of a colt we have by Zalim (Bayazar/Zareen) he was in great form as usual for someone 94 years old, and loves to talk about the horses, now he finds it more difficult to get out and about.
I remember when we bought the 2 mares with the intention of using a colt we had at the time. George inspected the colt at malvern, and we asked his opinion, which he was reluctant to give - anyway under pressure, I will always remember his words 'would be a waste of 2 bl**dy good mares!). He then went on to work through the colt from the ground up - needless to say the colt never covered any mares, and was gelded soon afterwards, thinking back, George was spot on!
