Just got back from the yard and *overnight!!* my 2 year old filly has got pink areas on the edge of her eyes. I regonised this as the Arabian fading syndrome as my friend has a few arabs with this. Will it affect her showing? She looks like an appy at the mo, its not really nice lol! She is so beautiful.
On the same note i've just got my colt back from a yard (my friend she borrowed him to keep her gelding company) he was there just over 2 months. He has a skin problem of some sort. Happened since he was there. Some people say it looks like vitiligo but thought maybe someone one here knows? Hes not an Arab but a welsh sec B 2 year old colt.
Here is my filly i took today
and heres a few of my colt! God my car is off the road at the mo now 2 of my babies have something wrong!!!

Hi,
It looks like your colt may have picked up ring worm, it could also be rain scald, but does look more like ringworm.
As for you filly - it may be in her breeding to go pink, but it can also be a lack of copper/iron. Feeding seaweed is a good preventative but you tend to have to use twice the recommended amount. It shouldn't affect her showing career - as her coat turns white it doesn't show up as much anyway. You can win at top level with pink faces - plenty of horses have done. I would speak to your vet about the colt, as he will do a skin scrape to see what is actually going on.

Hi there, Search the archived posts for a thread called " FAO Vera...(copperplex) " It should help you with the pinkness. My boys eyes were really bad....after 6 weeks on copperplex they are normal again! Also check out www.hhss.biz and search for copperplex, you will see my boy and his results on there. |

I must admit it does look a bit like ringworm....it can leave white crusty patches because it's a fungus.
But having said that, lots of things can cause bizarre scabby lumps. Your vet would probably be best placed to identify it. It could just be an allergy.
Were there cows at the place he was staying? Cows often carry ringworm. Or it can lurk in the woodwork of some places for ages and be brought out by the weather. Don't panic, though - tis a PITA but not life threatening. Make sure you disinfect yourself just to be on the safe side as people can get it, and keep him away from the other neds till you know what it is.
Whenever I've looked after ponies with ringworm I just end up feeling all itchy scratchy for weeks afterwards, even though I'm clean and fungus free LOL. It makes you really paranoid. |

No no cows, he was living with one pony, my friends. Friends pony is fine, has nothing like this on him at all! They have been together for almost 5 months. In her paddock by her house. She has her own yard.
Before that ( in feb) He was living with all of them (well he had his own paddock) and no other horse has this at all!
Very strange lol! Thanks for all your help will update later when I find out what it is! |

Hi Karen,
Can you do me a favour (and save me a few grey hairs) and reduce the size of your photos, they are killing the bandwidth, particularly during peak times. Some members are reporting very slow access times.
If everyone can keep their photos to a sensible size (both physically and file size) then there should be no noticeable performance problems with the forum.
This was a public information post
