NEWARK & NOTTS SHOW
10th - 11th May 2003

Show report from Louise Graham

Pure-Bred, Part-Bred & Anglo-Arab In-Hand

THE CHAMPIONSHIP LINE UP
RIGHT TO LEFT
CAMARGUE TOO .. AMENTO TAMAR .. ISLAND MERAK

Pure-bred Arabs were particularly thin on the ground at Newark and Notts Show, which only recently re-instated the classes after an absence of a number of years. Even with only ones and twos entered the prize money offered was £26 for first place and £15 for second. The PBA and AA classes were far better subscribed. The show was a qualifier for the Breeders Challenge Supreme In-Hand Championship and the Royal Lancashire Red Rose In-Hand Championship. The classes were affiliated to the AHS with their special rosettes being awarded. The highest-placed Part-bred or Anglo-Arab (not already qualified and in the top four with their card on them) qualified for the Anglo & Part-Bred UK In-Hand Championship

1ST & RESERVE CHAMPION
CAMARGUE TOO

Mrs J.B. and Miss J.C. Greenwood

Over the three Pure-Bred classes there were just six entries! The single entry in the youngstock class did not come forward. Then only one of the two mares entered was forward, Mr A. Davies’ Amento Tamara (by Manar ex Amellita bint Lavado) who the Judge, Miss E. Morley, had as her Champion. The fabulous grey stallion, the Greenwood’s Camargue Too (Camargue x Nasida) won his class, with his air-punching action and sheer charisma. Second in the stallions and geldings was Mrs Diane Roach’s Island Merak. The serene liver chestnut mare, Amento Tamaro then stood Reserve in the Royal Lancashire Red Rose qualifier, judged by Barbara Ashby-Jones

In contrast, the youngstock class for Anglo and Part-Breds had 16 entries which were divided into yearlings, two and three-year-olds. The winning yearling, Mrs Gilchrist’s colt, Deanhills Royal Jubilee (by Sandbourne Royal Ensign out of Bradmore Nutkin) took the reserve championship. The Champion again came from the mare class, in the elegant form of Mrs Roper-Caldbeck’s Greenacres Floribunda, a 6-year-old by Fairlyn Fanfare out of Marchmanor Red Rose. She also won the best PBA unlikely to exceed153cm at maturity. The best PBA unlikely to exceed 148cm at maturity was won by Deanhills Royal Jubilee ahead of the winning 2-year-old, Miss C. Constable’s filly Bracon Top Cat by Colbeach Splendour.
