DRESS CODE

CORRECT,TRADITIONAL ATTIRE IS A MUST,SO FOR THE NEWCOMERS,WE THOUGHT THAT A “RECOMMENDED DRESS CODE ”WOULD BE INFORMATIVE AND HELPFUL.
Produced for the A.H.S.by Arabian-Link in association with Caroline Nelson,Stephanie Turner and
Stuart Fleming.Sept.2002.

During the class,Ladies should wear a neat collar and tie with either a Tweed or a Navy Blue Jacket, lemon (not yellow)Breeches and Boots,Leather gloves and a leather-covered Show Cane (not a dressage schooling whip) should be carried.

See Pic 1 which shows a Lady rider in Tweed and collar and tie, here pictured with the immaculate Gentleman Judge modelling correctly the outfit worn during the class. In this instance the Gentleman Judge has removed his Bowler for the Rosette presentation.

Pic 2 depicts the only alternative Dress for the Lady during the class.Navy Blue Jacket,Velvet Hunt Cap,‘collar &tie ’,again neat leather gloves and showing cane. A silk hat and hunting stock should NOT be worn in the class. It would be in order to wear a hat with discreet safety harness,if desired. Please note the plain (not ‘show pony ’)browband on the Arabian.

And now for those lucky ones who reach the Championship! There are two alternatives for Ladies and two for Gentlemen. The Lady must wear a ‘low-crown ’ Silk Top Hat..This is accompanied by a Navy Blue ‘cutaway ’ Jacket, waistcoat (not brightly coloured),and a well-tied Hunting Stock in white or a pale pastel colour (not polka dot!).Lemon breeches (not white or yellow).Again, leather gloves and show cane complete the ensemble.

Pic 4 shows the alternative coat for the (slimmer)Lady, an elegant “Dressage ” Tail--coat which is worn with all the accoutrements as previously described.

Pic 6 -Gentlemen do have the alternative of wearing full “Morning Dress ” -- which consists of collar and tie, Waistcoat, Black Morning Coat and proper Riding Trousers made for the purpose.Black (Jodhpur-type) boots are worn

There are no alternatives to the above. Hunt Dress, or any amalgam of the above is incorrect and will be frowned upon.

Our grateful thanks to all our models, both human and equine (and to their kind owners) without whom this guide could not have been compiled.N.B.All the equine models have retired from competition. One rider has been digitally imposed onto another rider ’s horse.
